As described in the link, you can use the below custom format to do so.
_(* #,##0_);_(*(#,##0);_(* “-”??_);_(@_)
But you can modify it as follows to show a dash only without surround it in double quotes:
_(* #,##0_);_(*(#,##0);_(* -??_);_(@_)
