Edge Group Policy BUG with New TAB PAGE - RECOMMENDED is getting ENFORCED and not changeable.

MissyQ  Any update on the fix for this?

I have 85,000 hospital computers we want to switch from IE to Chromium Edge. However, this bug is still outstanding.

When we set the New Tab Page Location is the Home Page URL we want users to be ABLE to change it. Instead it is enforced.

When you set the NEW TAB Page Location URL in GPO - Default Recommended, it Enforces it so users cannot change it?

That is NOT the point of Recommended. It should only be "let users change but set by default".

lforbes @Kelly_Y ...so it's been nearly two years since this bug was reported.

Why is this taking so long to address?

Forcing people to use the Microsoft Feed in the absence of a GPO value (which is not changeable by the end-user anyway) is terrible customer service. Can we please get this to work so that end-users can update this value from a default value?

I would love a solution to this. I have to explain this to users on a monthly basis at my org.

We can also confirm that these "Recommended" policies are being applied as "Mandatory".

This is even the case with build 83.0.478.56.

Jan 2023 and still not sorted by MS? I wonder what the challenge is here?

Hi!  The root cause for the recommended policy not working as expected is that Microsoft Edge doesn't provide any user interface to allow a user to set their New Tab Page location (like Daniel Smith mentioned above with the screenshots).

A user can set a new tab page location by installing a New Tab Page Microsoft Edge Extension from the Extension Store.

If you haven't had a chance yet, you can submit feature requests through the browser. ("..." menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback).  Thanks!

Are you serious? You guys came up with a whole extension to bandaid an issue instead of fixing the issue?

MissyQ the year is now 2024 and the Edge policy reference still says "The recommended version of this policy does not currently work [...]"

I understand this is still expected to be fixed one day? Is there any prospect of when this will be fixed or is there an official workaround available?

lforbes Hey, Lara! Thanks for the friendly ping on this. I've moved this thread to the Enterprise section of our forums and reached out to Kelly_Y for follow up.

Typically, it's best to report bugs through support options that we have available. In the case for bugs with Insider channels, you can reach out to our Insider Support team; they are small and specialize in handling both Insider and Enterprise inquiries, and can help out much faster than those of us on the team can. My team is also a very small team (there's only 3 of us across several different platforms), and things like this can get missed sometimes. I truly do appreciate the poke to resurface this, though, and Kelly should be able to help you out further. 🙂

Just done some testing on this and as far as I can see all this works.

I Have enforced home page, new tab page both to intranet. I have enforced behaviour on start-up to be "open list of pages" and I have added a list of pages into the "Micrsosoft edge - default settings (users can override)" section of GP settings.

    seems to work fine.

What I want to do though is to enforce the ones in the list but allow users to add more if they so wished.

ShepEd Just to be clear, we "can" set the location of the new tab page's URL via GPO. What's missing is the ability for the end-user to alter our initial default and set the new tab page to whatever they'd prefer.
