Aug 19, 2019What we're hearing from you
Note: This is no longer the most recent top feedback summary. You can always find the latest at https://aka.ms/MSEdgeTopFeedback.
Hello insiders, we’re listening!
Over these past months we have been busy reading all the great feedback you've been sending us through the "Send feedback" smiley, here on the insider forum, and to our @MSEdgeDev Twitter handle. As we go through the feedback, common themes, popular suggestions, and bugs with broad impact emerge. We've been highlighting this "top feedback" within the team, and we'd like to share it with you as well. Starting with this post, we will regularly summarize the most significant feedback we are hearing from you and give you an update on the status of each item. We'll also highlight some of the changes we've made that were inspired or prioritized because of your feedback. Check out the list below, and of course use this forum thread to share your thoughts and discuss.
Your feedback has directly led to many improvements. Here are just some of the most notable, now available in the Canary channel:
- Dark theme is here! The most common request over the last several months is to add a dark theme to Edge – check it out in Settings under Appearance today!
- Need help translating? Bing Translate is now built into Microsoft Edge – look for the prompt offering a translation the next time you encounter a page that isn't in your language
- Do you want more control over the data your browser keeps? Check out the privacy controls in Settings under Privacy and services, including the option to Choose what to clear every time you close the browser.
- Don’t want to see the favorites bar all the time? There is now an option in Settings under Appearance that allows you to show it only when you open a new tab.
- Are you annoyed by all the ads competing for your attention while you're trying to focus? Try Reading View for a distraction-free reading experience – look for the book icon in your address bar.
- Want to sign-in and sync to AAD accounts just like your Microsoft account? Sign-in and sync of AAD accounts is now available.
Here are some top feedback topics we plan to address in the coming months. (Of course, plans can change. We'll make sure to let you know if timing or direction shift on any of these.)
Planned to be addressed in the Canary channel in September 2019:
- An option to prevent auto-play of video and audio when you open a website
- A round of improvements to scrolling experience, with more (including performance) to come down the line
- The addition of a favorites button to the toolbar, to provide quicker access to favorites
Planned to be addressed in the Canary channel in October 2019:
- Inking on PDFs
- When you sign-in to the browser, your sign-in profile picture will accurately be kept up to date.
- When you have more than one profile, better handling for opening links and attachments in the appropriate profile.
- An option to set your own photos as the background image on the New Tab Page
- Enable search in the extensions store
- A bug fix for users who receive an “Administrator Mode Detected” notification (advising them to close and relaunch the browser in non-administrator mode) each time they launch Edge
- ClickOnce deployment of Windows applications from web pages
The team is reviewing the following feature requests and we'll be sure to let you know if they're getting ready to show up in one of our channels:
- Feature requests for the New Tab Page, including the capability to turn off the news feed, to hide the Bing search bar, to change the search provider, to rename tiles, and to support Dark Theme
- Bring back features from the current version of Microsoft Edge such as tab set aside, tab preview, "Ask Cortana", and the reading list
- Make it easier to share web content with other users and apps
- Provide an option to set a custom home page
- Update the user interface with the Fluent Design System, including less rounded tabs
- Support themes from the Chrome Web Store
- Allow sign-in to the browser with a Google account
- Provide different options for sorting favorites
- Provide run / open / save / save as options when downloading files
Finally, there are a few areas where you've told us our quality needs to improve. We are investigating these areas and will fix specific bugs when they are identified:
- Edge should use less memory and CPU than it does
- Scrolling should feel smoother, both for web pages and PDFs
- Update does not always work reliably
- Drop-down menus in some web pages are not working
You can help in these areas by keeping the bug reports coming. Whether you have a major issue or a minor glitch, if you see something, click the "Send feedback" smiley and tell us briefly what happened. Every report helps!
Thank you all for being insiders. Your feedback motivates and inspires us, and we genuinely appreciate it. We look forward to sharing these updates on a regular basis to show how you're helping to set the direction of the next version of Microsoft Edge.

Can you add multiple search engines for images in ‘search the web for image’. I mean if you click on search the web for image it searches for the image in your default search engine, but you can also choose another search engine in the cascading menu such as ‘bing’ or ‘tin eye’ etc without the hassle of opening the search engine and then try searching for that image or changing your default search engine.

I'd love something like this, great suggestion

We are very excited about the new version of Edge!
I work as a lead implementer of O365 solutions at a hospital employing around 1200 people. What is key for us is the ability to access our SharePoint online site without the need for any additional username and password requirements. We use AD connect to synchronize passwords with our on-premise Active Directory service with Azure AD and have currently built a basis SharePoint online "extranet" to allow for single sign-on using Internet Explorer. We also have an on premise SharePoint site.
I notice that the beta version of edge does do seamless single sign-on with our on premise site (didn't in the past) but no longer works seamlessly with our cloud version.
Any thoughts/ideas? Thanks

RollyBrockville We support seamless SSO with AD connect in the next version of Microsoft Edge on Chromium. Are you still unable to get seamless SSO with your cloud version? If so, could you try to look into the below article to set up AD Connect seamless SSO? I've also pasted some sections of interest. Please let us know if you have any issues and thanks for your patience on this reply.

Microsoft Edge based on Chromium (all platforms)
If you have overridden the AuthNegotiateDelegateAllowlist or the AuthServerAllowlist policy settings in your environment, ensure that you add Azure AD's URL (
https://autologon.microsoftazuread-sso.com
) to them as well.Microsoft Edge based on Chromium (macOS and other non-Windows platforms)
For Microsoft Edge based on Chromium on Mac OS and other non-Windows platforms, refer to the Microsoft Edge based on Chromium Policy List for information on how to add the Azure AD URL for integrated authentication to your allow-list.

David Rubino So far I am loving new edge browser and has been using it as my default browser, but can you add a feature that switches between search engines in the search bar rather than going to that search engine's webpage first.
- WarstunnCopper Contributor
Been loving the new Edge so far, and it's been a huge improvement from the old one. But one thing for me is still missing, I love that you can now switch between multiple Microsoft accounts like you can do with Google accounts on Chrome, but on Chrome there's a little "square" button that if you click on it it'll drop down a menu with many Google services to quick-launch (Google Docs, Drive, Gmail, etc.). I would love you see something like that implemented into Edge, like a menu where you can fire up Word Online or your Outlook email straight from the home menu with just 2 clicks.

Personally I have my outlook.com Mail as a favorite on the right hand end of the favorites bar. Click it and Outlook.com Mail page opens (And logs in automatically as it's a saved login), which has the square of 9 dots button, just like Google's, that drops down a menu of all the Microsoft Apps. So two clicks. Just as I have Google.co.uk as one of the tiles on the new tab page of Edge and Firefox, so 1 click on a tile on the ntp gives me the Google home page with the 9-dot square for the menu of all the Google services (and logs into Google automatically, and has a link to my Google Account).
I really can't understand the need for adding extra buttons in a toolbar likely to become crowded with extension buttons when it's trivial to create easy access to the Microsoft Apps menu in either the favorites bar or through a tile on the ntp.

I see, that's pretty neat. I didn't even know about that before as the default home page isn't that. I think most people (like me) who enjoys Google's service menu don't know about this which is very unfortunate 😞 . I'm thinking maybe Microsoft can add a menu just like that in between the search bar and the profile picture and include all MS services (including the likes of Mixer, Xbox, OneNote etc.)

David Rubino any plan to implement screenshot functionality as in current Firefox version? It is a great tool I use a lot.
- Hi,
You can use the Snip & Sketch which is a universal tool and it won't limit you to only one browser. it's already built in Windows 10 and you can map it to the PrntScrn key for a shortcut button. - Drew1903Silver Contributor

Hi & welcome,
I don't use FF so not terribly familiar with it, BUT, I can talk about 'screen shots'. 1st there is a distinction between screen shots & windows or parts thereof. Screen shots can be done 2 ways, PrtScn key or Snip & Sketch. Window or section snips, again can be done with Snip & Sketch. That said, as far as such a utility within the browser... it, already, exists in Edge. It is called Add notes. We arehopingexpecting it is going to be in Edge C, sometime (soon). Countless people like yourself want to have this Feature, want it kept.
NB: There are extensions that act like Add notes, but, if nothing else lack the integrated sharing (such as to OneNote) and certainly, not the same as the built-in tool/Feature. Really, no comparison to Add notes.
Cheers,
Drew
- Robby_N_JonesCopper ContributorIm Robby n im new here so im not sure if its already been coverred... I have D/L MS edge BETA.. I LOVE it BUT PLEASE get Rid of the Annoying ads in bottom right hand corner that flash up fairly regularly.. I Got Rid of Chrome BECAUSE of Exactly Same Reason.. Im here cause i love the net, NOT to be constantly Annoyed by ads. PLEASE update Edge Beta n kill the ads.. I went to MS Store n d/l ad blocker,BUT that installed in Regular Edge Browser NOT in Beta.. Looked in Beta Settings n theres NO blocker Option that ive seen. PLEASE help...
PART 2.. IN Facebook in Edge Beta, click on any pic to RIGHT CLICK n SAVE IMAGE. Only NOW its telling me "Cant find file name".. It WAS D/L earlier so its only just become an issue tonight ...
The Ad just poped up again it says ."Microsoft Edge Beta *Zooxhamster.com.. Theyre ALL Different but thats what this one says.. Robby JHello,
I understand the ads can be super annoying,
here is the best ad-blocker extension made so far, called ublock Origin:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ublock-origin/cjpalhdlnbpafiamejdnhcphjbkeiagm?hl=en
it's the most effective one and uses the least system resources. so unlike other ad blockers, instead of slowing down your system, it actually will speed it up by preventing ad contents from loading in the first place. it can prevent malicious links, unwanted embedded bitcoin minders in the websites etc.
ublock Origins has got enough filters in it already but here is the full list of filters that you can add to it with just a click if you ever think they are not enough 🙂

Microsoft
Hi MarsMas, I am having trouble reproducing the issue you have described. When I double click on the items in Manage Favorites, they open in a new tab, and take me to that tab. If I am missing a step please let me know, so that I can reproduce the problem, and get a bug filed on our developers. Thanks - Elliot
- MarsMasIron Contributor
Elliot Kirk ok, here how it goes,
Click edge menu/ Favorites / Manage favorites /
(Mange Favorites will open in a new tab)
Now when you double click any URL in that tab, it it will open 2 times, one in "Manage Favorites tab" (current) and another in a new tab
i hope i am clear this time
- Which version of Edge insider?
on Version 78.0.262.0 (Official build) canary (64-bit) it's all fine.
- MarsMasIron Contributor
When I click on a favorite , I want it to open in a new tab by default -
I know I can right click to select a menu item to do this each time, but I want it to be the default action.
- Drew1903Silver ContributorUse, click the mouse wheel, it's '3rd' or middle button to open the Fav..
Cheers,
Drew
Sent from Windows Phone Already there!
use Middle Mouse Button (MMB) instead of LMM (Left Mouse Button) to click on favorites.

I dont so it shouldnt be a mandatory default in my eyes, user selectable would be nice though
