Edge built-in search engine Yandex connecting to Russia?
Hi all,
I'm currently busy to determine a baseline for my network traffic, but what I've noticed is that at random times there is https traffic to ip-adresses in Russia. Based on some reverse-ip's I have found out that they belong to yandex.ru or yandex.mc etc. I have run multiple malware tools on my endpoints but nothing is popping up. The only thing I have seen, is that in the search engine in Edge there is a search engine for Yandex. When I remove that search engine, the traffic seem to stop immediately.
Anyone, an idea what kind of traffic this could be?

- Yandex is based in Russia, so its natural that traffic goes to IP in Russia. It is very popular in Russia. Just question why would anyone would use Yandex outside of Russia.
- I know, it’s one of the largest search engines used in Russia, but why do I see traffic from random endpoints going to Russia. It think it has to do with the built-in search engine in Edge. I had a colleague who doesn’t use Edge but I still saw https traffic to Yandex. And that what bothers me.

This is an old post – Edge doesn't use IE mode anymore.
The problem, in my opinion, no longer exists.
- Was there reference to IE Mode in this post? I was curious about the traffic being generated to yandex.ru
