Can't redeem Microsoft Cashback

If you know of a better place to post this, let me know.  Needless to say, the regular Microsoft Support has been worse than useless.

Until last month, Microsoft Cashback (within Microsoft Edge) worked well for me.  But early in August, Microsoft Cashback announced that three amounts, $7.00 and $1.25 twice, were "Ready to redeem".  However, the amount reflected in the "Current balance" and "Redeem your earnings" was only $1.25.  I submitted a trouble report.

After receiving no initial help, I tried performing a redemption anyway.  Microsoft Cashback sent $1.25 to my PP acount, but then falsely marked all three amounts as "Redeemed"!

Week after week, Microsoft Support assured me that my case was still open, but without a solution.  Recently, I myself noticed that the missing amounts were now again marked "Ready to redeem", but still with no way to actually get the money!

Just today, Microsoft Support now announces that my case is closed--without ever solving the problem!  Moreover, the passage of time has brought another $1.25 into "Ready to redeem" status, so Microsoft now owes me $9.00 that it is unwilling to give me.

Does anyone know whether Microsoft is even working on this Cashback problem?  Or has Microsoft simply abandoned its Cashback program?

  • If the Cashback balance is showing but the redemption keeps failing, I’d first double-check that the account and payment details match what Microsoft has on file. Also worth trying the redemption from an InPrivate window or after clearing Edge’s cookies/cache. If it still fails, it may be an account-side issue that support needs to fix.

The redemption doesn't fail, it simply doesn't redeem the amount marked as "Ready to redeem".

The first screenshot below shows that at least $9.50 is "Ready to redeem".  Thus, the "Current balance" ought to be at least $9.50 also; but it's not, only $0.64.

The second screenshot affirms that the $7.00 is "available to redeem" and offers a button to do so.

But the third screenshot shows that when I click on the button, Microsoft is offering to transfer only $0.64.

Yes, it is definitely an account-side issue.  But as I mentioned, Support spent over a month without solving the problem, then closed the trouble report!

What am I to conclude from that?

I have already spent weeks with Microsoft Rewards Support.  They are worse than useless.  As I have already explained, they eventually closed my trouble report without ever solving the problem.

Your own response confirms to me that Microsoft has essentially abandoned the Microsoft Cashback feature and has no intention of paying the money promised.

I completely understand your frustration, particularly given the amount of time you’ve already spent trying to get this resolved.

I do want to clarify one point, though. My response wasn’t intended to suggest that Microsoft has abandoned Cashback. The Microsoft Tech Community team is separate from the Microsoft Rewards team, and we don’t have access to Rewards accounts, Cashback transactions or their support cases. That means there unfortunately isn’t anything we can investigate or resolve for you through this community.

Rather than leave your post unanswered, I wanted to point you towards the support channel responsible for Microsoft Rewards and Cashback issues, even though I appreciate that you’ve already had a frustrating experience with them.

I’m sorry we can’t provide a resolution here, but I don’t want our inability to assist to be interpreted as a statement about the status of the Cashback programme.
