DOCacheHost Setting Query

Can anyone advise if the 'DOCacheHost' setting along with the below setup, will prevent clients from contacting caching servers on other subnets? Asking due to configuration policies, whether they need to be separated per site (assuming 1 subnet per site) or if a central policy with multiple MCC hosts will work.

DOCacheHost: mcc1-site1.domain, mcc2-site2.domain, mcc3-site3.domain
Download mode: HTTP blended with peering behind same NAT (1)
Restrict Peer Selection: Subnet mask

  • Hi marty5, thanks for your question.

The DOCacheHost setting is just an endpoint, like a CDN, and is not dependent on where it is on the network. The only thing to remember is the Delivery Optimization client will connect to the listed Microsoft Connected Cache servers in the order as they are listed. Hope that helps!

Replying again as first attempt has disppeared.

Carmen_Forsmanncould you clarify this in the documentation/settings? Ideally there is a setting to restrict contacting cache servers to the local subnet as devices in one branch could theoretically contact an MCC in another branch (assuming routing access) and therefore saturate a link unnecessarily.

      Hi Carmen,

It would be good if this was clarified in the documentation as a branch client may be able to see a server in another branch and try to contact it rather than the server in its own branch.

An option to limit contacting a cache using the local subnet only would be useful.

if you need to restrict the MCCE to provide content in the same subnet as the devices are in and you are unable to restrict from DOCacheHost policy [you may have clients moving around] then you can look at using OptionID235 along with DOCacheHostSource set to 1, the Cache Node IP can be set at subnet level and a device in the same subnet will get the related MCCE Cache host IP.
