Necessity of Order Lines Licenses

Hello everyone,
A customer would like to connect an external third party warehouse management system to Finance & Supply Chain.  This system accesses the Sales Order Line.
Is the Operations - Order Line license necessary for this?
The customer argues that the “Users of WMS” could also be equipped with D365 licenses and would then be licensed.

Thank you in advance

  • Classic Multiplexing scenario. Both options are valid. Yes, users of the WMS tool should have appropriate D365 licenses to be allowed to indirectly CRUD on D365 software. But this can either be licensed via Order Lines (if it qualifies for Order Line scenario's), or via an USL.

Makes sense to calculate a costs break-even-point to see which option it the cheapest.

      Thank you for your answer.

One more question to be on the safe side. As appropriate D365 licenses, only full Finance or SCM USL for the WMS users can be considered here, right? Team Member and Activity do not fulfill the CRUD conditions if I see it correctly.

That I can't answer as that depends on the D365 setup, actions the users will take from the WMS solution and the roles related to those actions.

There're a few D365 warehouse roles related to Activity USL level. Worth investigating.

  • MartijnElfers seems to know about licensing, I will tag him in case he has anything to add and I will also reach out to the team and see if they have a response. Thanks for being part of the community!
