Adding Windows Standard 2022 licenses to Datacenter 2019 licenses on the same physical server
If a customer has a physical server licensed with Windows Datacenter 2019 for the right amount of cores, and want to add a couple guest VMs to the same physical server. Can they order Windows Standard 2022 for the appropriate amount of cores? Are there any issues with this and is it compliant?
Upon reading the information from the current version of the Windows Server 2022 Licensing Guide (can be found in Partner Center, login req'd):

If I understand correctly, you have Windows Server Datacenter 2019 and you want to add guest VMs to that same datacenter, correct?
If so, I have good news for you. With Windows Server Datacenter 2019 (as well as Datacenter 2022), you're allowed to add unlimited virtual machines.

Hi, I don't think I may be asking my question correctly, as I still do not know what the answer is. Your latest response is on the bottom of this message. I have read the documentation and unfortunately it does not discuss adding Windows Standard licenses (new version) on the same server that is licensed with a older version of DC (in my case Datacenter 2019). The question is whether there is any reason I cannot license the same physical server Windows Standard 2022 licenses to add 2 new 2022 guest OS's on the same server that currently has 2019 Datacenter on it. The existing VM's will continue to run version 2019. Only the 2 new guest OS's will be running 2022, which is why I would be adding just enough cores of 2022 to cover those. I understand that they ultimately will want to license this host with 2022 DC, but for right now, they want to license the 2 guests only. If I should be asking this question in a different forum, please let me know that too. Thank you! I hope this clarifies my question.

- Thank you for letting me know. My question does have to do with Perpetual CSP. Should this still be moved to the NCE & BizApps community? If so, if you could move it, I would greatly appreciate it. Would this be where I would also post other licensing questions having to do with either seat based NCE licenses or Perpetual CSP licenses? I appreciate your help!
