Semi annual to Monthly enterprise - Roll back plan
Hi All,
I am planning to change office channel from Semi annual enterprise to Monthly enterprise through M365 admin console, servicing profile option. However want to have a roll back plan if any of user reports issue after moving to Monthly enterprise. Can someone help with the steps on how to get back the semi annual channel office version on the machine. Currently office is being pushed from Intune. So will I need to uninstall Monthly enterprise version manually and then push the policy to install semi annual manually or if this can be handled in a easy way (Tried editing few registries / through command prompt to Updatechannel, none of it were working ). Appreciate any response on this. Thanks.
SN-7268 without touching the device after setting the channel, yes, you can expect it to take upwards of 24 hours to activate. If you want to expedite this process, I've got another video I can point you to 🙂 https://youtu.be/g5VfSMlpJn0?si=lfLQyvI_fzje0VL-
The 23:35 mark covers the command line trigger if you want to expedite the update check.

Hi SN-7268
Happy to assist with this. First, through the Servicing Profile you have access to controls like rollout waves, pause, and rollback for situations where users report an issue with Monthly Enterprise Channel. Often times rolling back to a previous build is more advantageous than hopping update channels.
That said, there are a few different options for changing channels. First, you would need to add these devices via the "Exclude Devices" control under Device selection criteria. Once the device offboards you can trigger the channel change. I'll refer you to this video we published that walks through the various methods > https://youtu.be/rIpoloAZnSg?si=87Kp_cGWuS1kpi1l. The 6:40 marker in particular covers the policy settings for Intune.
In the not-so-distant future you will be able to do the channel change directly through the Apps admin center, so keep an eye out in the portal for news on those changes.

BobClements, Thank you so much for taking your time and helping me on this.
I could go through the video you shared which clarified most of my doubts. Thanks again. Just one thing to confirm, Video marking 2.25 which talks about the Click2run acknowledges and registers the channel change and installs the updated channel's latest version on the local machine, any timelines we can have for this? By default is it 24 hours or something? and can we expedite this process by any means like through command prompt running click2run.exe /updateuser or re-running the C2R scheduled task ? Trying to limit the impacted time for the user in cases of rollback.
Thank you.- BobClements
