Why is Access going away?
It seems once a month I get asked the question, for whatever reason, some believe that Microsoft has abandoned Access or it's "about" to go away. I also hear about VBA "about" to go away as well.
The fact is Access in the last three years has gone through a growth spurt and its in no small effort due to the great Access team we have in place now.
Access is the most prolific desktop database in the world, with the rest of the field of products not even close. Given the huge footprint of Access files Microsoft will not terminate the product or VBA any time soon.
Just consider the following great features introduced in that period:
- Revamped link table manager that makes relinking and updates a breeze
- New graphing capabilities
- New connector technologies
These are just some of the great examples of a vibrant product and not one that is dormant, or about to go away.
