Microsoft rep insisting there is no Volume Licensing for Win IoT
Has anyone else ever had their Microsoft rep insist that the Windows IoT product can only be purchased with a new PC? We are trying to get the product SKU added to our Volume Licensing and this was Microsoft's response: "Windows IOT Enterprise LTSC cannot be added to volume licensing. Never has. Never will. It is an IOT OEM product only. I repeat it: the only option to obtain Windows IOT Enterprise LTSC is to purchase devices that have it pre-installed." Sharing links such as https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/iot/iot-enterprise/commercialization/licensing#volume-licensing and https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/iot/iot-enterprise/deployment/volume-license?pivots=windows11 is not changing their mind: "Public documentation can help interpret intent, but it cannot expand or override contractual usage rights under the MCA / Volume Licensing terms and the Windows IoT Enterprise EULA." So we're stuck having to revalidate our manufacturing fixtures every year or so, which is an incredibly expensive process. Has anyone else had Microsoft push back not against the use-case (ours should absolutely qualify) but the very notion that Volume Licensing is allowed at all?SolvedhopkinschApr 15, 2026Copper Contributor118Views0likes5CommentsI2cDevice class / Method WriteReadPartial issuing "unknown error"
Hello community, I'm currently working on an Intel Atom E39340 platform with Windows 10 IOT 2021 LTSC installed on it. The Read and Write methods of the I2cDevice class everything are working just fine. Nevertheless, one of my sensors needs a Write+Read access (Start / Write / Restart / Read /Stop) to access some registers. When I use the WriteRead(byte[] writebuffer, byte[] readbuffer) I get a System.Argument.Exception:'The parameter is incorrect'. (which is really weird because its compiling). When I use the WriteReadPartial(byte[] writebuffer, byte[] readbuffer) method to get the error code the result is 4 (i.e Unknown error). Overall, nothing happens on the I2C bus. I have explored the online documentation but can't find a lead... https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/uwp/api/windows.devices.i2c.i2cdevice.writereadpartial?view=winrt-22621 Does anyone has ever experienced this ? Thanks a lot for your feedback. Best regards.Solved- Pascal_JaultMar 22, 2022Copper Contributor2KViews0likes3Comments
Blank screen Skype user Windows 10 IoT
I recently installed MS IoT OS on a desktop PC and everything was fine until the last step in which it loads into the Skype user account and all I get a blank screen. I cannot log out (Ctrl+Alt+Del), Shift+Esc does not work either. I can hard boot but it automatically boots back into the local Skype user. Please help.SolvedPhil TukeySep 21, 2021Copper Contributor1.8KViews0likes2CommentsIoTEdge on Windows 10 IoT Enterprise
I have recovered some old electronics that were working very well with Windows 7 Embedded. Driven by the apparent simplicity of implementing IoTEdge in the documentation and understanding the great potential of joining IoTHub + IoTEdge I got down to work. After several hours wasted trying to configure a device, I must admit that I feel bewildered. During the process I try to install a clean copy of Windows 10 IoT Enterprise a total of three times by following the four steps outlined in: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/iot-edge/how-to-install-iot-edge-windows but it was useless because I was not able to start the agent apparently due to not having permissions or because the docker agent cannot be started. I suppose that in the end I am leaving some nonsense but I don't know how to see it. Have any of you had a fight with IoTEdge / IoT Enterprise, or generally go directly to Debian based system?SolvedPepLluisBanoMar 29, 2020Copper Contributor1.9KViews1like3CommentsWhy do I feel abandoned?
