Keep FAQs fresh and relevant with AI - update content faster and serve visitors better

We are excited to introduce the latest updates coming to the SharePoint FAQ web part, designed to help content owners keep FAQ content accurate, engaging, and always up to date.

These enhancements make it simple to keep FAQs accurate and engaging - thanks to on-demand AI-suggested updates, seamless import of existing FAQs, SharePoint Page as grounding references, and the new ability to copy and share individual Q&A links with your audience.

Let us take a closer look at how these updates simplify FAQ creation and maintenance in SharePoint.

What’s New?

With this update, authors who have a Microsoft 365 Copilot license will gain powerful new ways to manage FAQ freshness and content accuracy.

On-demand AI-suggested FAQ updates

Get AI-generated update suggestions based on changes in your reference files and additional questions submitted from site visitors.

Easily review and apply these AI recommendations to keep FAQs aligned with the latest information - and encourage visitor engagement with fresh, relevant answers.

FAQ authors can review and approve AI suggestions to keep the content accurate and up to date.

Seamless import of existing FAQs

Bring your existing, curated FAQ content directly into the SharePoint FAQ web part with a simple copy and paste.

This ensures smooth integration and preserves your organization’s existing knowledge assets -without overwriting by AI.

FAQ authors can easily import Q&A pairs by simply pasting content.

Use SharePoint Pages as reference sources

Enhance answer reliability by grounding FAQ responses in your own SharePoint content. You can now connect responses to the current page or other selected pages, ensuring your answers are always backed by trusted internal sources.

FAQ authors can use the current page or existing pages as reference sources.

Copy to share - link to specific Q&A pairs

Need to share a specific answer with someone? Now you can copy a direct link to any Q&A pair. Recipients will land directly on the expanded answer, making it easier to guide people to exactly what they need.

FAQ authors can share a direct link to specific Q&A pair.

The features and capabilities mentioned in this blog post are demonstrated in the following video with Tina Chen (Microsoft) and Vesa Juvonen (Microsoft).

We are working on multiple new features to further enhance this web part. Here are few specific ones to mention:

  • Get notified when AI detects changes worth updating through the Knowledge Agent - helping you stay one step ahead with timely content refreshes.
  • Gain insights from visitor interaction signals - including view counts per question, likes, and flags to report incorrect answers.

  • Hi TinaChen  / VesaJuvonen - love the new updates to help keep the FAQ up to date, importing of questions, etc.

Just wanted to share some previous feedback I added to the original FAQ announcement.

    • A (big) enhancement to the current FAQ would be to have a manual mode (non-Copilot) where the user would just manually add the Categories, Questions, and Answers without using Copilot - or use the Import questions option. This mode would be available to anyone (with or without a Copilot license). You have this capability already as you can create, edit and delete Categories, Questions and Answers. This would also provide consistency where all FAQs look the same (no need to introduce a completely new FAQ webpart in future). This would also add a lot of inclusivity for our users. There are already too many features that are only available to users with Copilot licenses. If this webpart was available to everyone (just not with the copilot experience for everyone) then that would be a massive win for your customers.
    • The ability to not have Categories - just Questions and Answers. Especially if you just have a few questions. It wouldn't make much sense to have a Category if you only had 5 questions for example. I'd imagine we would only have a few questions in a lot of our FAQs.
    • The addition of a Search box (optional via the webpart properties) at the top of the webpart (just below the Title) that searches the FAQs would be a nice addition - especially if you have a lot of categories and/or questions.
    • Will the webpart include Target Audience options like most of the other webparts? Not looking at target audience options on each category, question, etc. - more on the webpart itself which is the standard across all webparts.
    • I still can't see the ability to add inline images in the answers - any updates in this space?
    • I understand why you made them all collapsed by default, but it would be nice to have the option to have them expanded by default if we want to, especially if there are only a few questions. Also, I'm not sure if rating a question based on how many times it was expanded is right - I'd assume the first question would get expanded more times than any just because it's the first one. Promoting and using likes/rating system would make more sense rather than only having a collapsed option to track expands.
    • Will it be configurable for Multilingual? We have many Multilingual sites across our business and ideally want our French pages (as an example) to be fully displayed in French, English in English, etc. We're seeing this issue/limitation with the new SharePoint Dashboards where it's mostly hardcoded to English (apart from a few Titles) without the ability to have translations to other languages.

Looking forward to the other updates including ability to flag questions/answers - will be interesting to see how you implement this (who will get notified and how).

Also, looking to see how certain features within these new webparts will be included in the Knowledge Agent. The Knowledge Agent still has a lot of issues at the moment so not something we would be rolling out for a while unfortunately - hopefully a lot of improvements/fixes prior to GA.

  • This is a really great web part. The UX is clever in that it gives people a clear structure to collaborate with Copilot, instead of just saying “create a page.” The update process is really well thought out too The only extra thing I’d love to see (and I know it’s more of a search tweak than a web part feature) is if search could display the FAQ title when it matches that content, rather than just showing the page title.
