Consumption-based pricing for SharePoint agents
Matt-Taylor wrote:Under the PAYGO model, customers are billed $0.01 per message.
This has been misleading, as Microsoft has been promoting for the last few months that customers will be billed 1 cent, whereas for each SharePoint Agent question, we will be charged 32 cents. Considering how rogue some of those answers can be from the agent, this can be a very expensive option for a large enterprise.

Hi BlueSky2010 - Thank you for your feedback. We understand the confusion around how we've communicated billing across messages and interactions and will be updating our approach to improve clarity. We also appreciate your input on the total price for an interaction—you're not alone in raising this concern. We're actively exploring options and hope to share updates soon. However, please note that users with an M365 Copilot license do not incur any consumption costs for interactions (nor messages) with SharePoint Agents.

Completely agree - not what we were expecting at all. We haven't enabled SharePoint Agents for other reasons (complete lack of governance controls, etc.) but this seals the deal for us unfortunately.

Hi grant_jenkins - Appreciate you taking the time to respond. I'll message you directly with my email, as I'd love to better understand your perspective on the "complete lack of governance controls, etc." SharePoint agents are governed and managed like any other SharePoint file, with the same governance, security, and management capabilities. If your concern is that we need to do more, I would better understand your point (and agree to some extent). We look forward to addressing in the very near future via new features and a blog dedicated directly to this topic.

grant_jenkins- I agree and we are in a similar situation. There is no way we can enable PAYG billing when there is no way to:
- Control the users who can use it (with ~90k users the cost will spiral rapidly)
- Control the site(s) on which agents can appear - using Restricted Content Discovery is too "heavy handed" - we'd like to be able to enable/disable agents per site
- Control / cap the consumption per agent / site - again, to control cost spiral
- Better cost segregation - we need some way to back-bill the costs to business based on site / user
