Here's some of what's really important to me and my customers:
- I need to be able open PDFs from new Outlook using Adobe Acrobat Reader or Adobe Acrobat DC, so that I can comment, fill and sign them. In new Outlook I can only preview or download PDFs. When I preview or downloaded PDF, new Outlook only opens it in a basic viewer instead of with an installed Adobe product. I have to go to the downloads folder and double-click from there to open it with Adobe. This is a major feature gap that was reported months ago, but still no change in this behavior.
- Managing delegated mailboxes - While you can find the delegated inbox in "Shared with me" (see #3 below), there's no access to the delegated calendar. This is a major feature gap for those that manage one or multiple mailboxes for others.
- Managing shared mailboxes - no "what's new" guidance appears to tell you that you'll find shared mailboxes in the "Shared with me" section, putting that training on IT. Similar guidance missing for delegates to advise where to find this functionality. People with shared mailboxes or who delegate their mailbox should get this guidance at launch. This is a significant usability gap.
- Joining a Teams meeting from new Outlook, if by the join URL (as sometimes the Join button is missing) takes you to your browser instead of directly into the Teams app. This is a usability gap.
- Feature parity with Rules. Almost all of my many rules won't work in new Outlook, only in classic Outlook, because feature parity for rules doesn't exist. This is a significant feature gap.
- Cache management - assuming you are going to develop something similar to the .OST for offline needs, it needs to be user (and by IT policy) configurable with a size limit, not a days/week/months limit like classic Outlook. Setting a 'days' limit on the cache doesn't prevent a massive amount of attachments from being cached in a short period, like setting a size limit on the cache can. This is a feature gap and change request.
