Usually, Data Exposed goes live at 9AM PT on LearnTV on the first Wednesday of the month. Every 4 weeks, we’ll do a News Update. We’ll include product updates, videos, blogs, etc. as well as upcoming events and things to look out for.  This month, we didn't do an episode, but if you want to catch other episodes, you can find them all at https://aka.ms/AzureSQLYT.

You can read this blog to get all the updates and references for February. Here’s the February 2022 update:

Product updates

The Azure SQL, SQL Server and other database teams at Microsoft have been hard at work the past month. We have so many cool things in the oven that I cannot wait to share out over 2022 as they land.

In January, one of the big updates for SQL Server was the release of Cumulative Update 15 for SQL Server 2019. This included some fixes as well as several improvements to the SQL Engine for Linux. One Linux improvement is that mssql-conf and adutil (utilities for running SQL Server on Linux) have been added to SQL Server 2019, enabling you to reduce the number of Active Directory (AD) customer service requests on Linux by simplifying deployment and rotate AD key tabs without downtime.

As with most months, several drivers/packages also have released updates, including for PHP, JDBC, and .NET. It’s nice to see that the changes and improvements we are making that are not language specific are being applied across the packages.

Additionally, there were several updates mentioned last month, that now have deeper dive blogs posted on both the Azure SQL Techcommunity and Azure Database Support blogs. Two that caught my eye are around backup storage redundancy and outbound firewall rules. There have also been some great blogs on cost management and automation. For the full list, keep reading!
