Version history and Retention Policies - Why do I have so many versions?
We are using (I believe) the global default of 500 versions for document libraries in SharePoint Online and now we are discovering that the version history is accumulating more than 500 major versions on items in libraries. We have retention policies set for SharePoint sites (do not delete for X years). Is that overriding the version history settings? We have libraries in supporting MSTeams and Communication sites where files are well over the 500 major version limit. 6800+, 7900+ It's kind of insane... I'm not finding the documentation to answer my question very easily. It's also throwing a wrench into backup software that we are trying to run since it doesn't have a setting where it allows us to backup a maximum amount of versions.
Mixed up users and date in version history
Hi everyone, I'm having a strange issue in SharePoint 2016 and version history. I have a document library with version history active and for some users, when uploading a new version of a document, the version get mixed up. When I check the version history, the first version got changed to a different date and creator is now the user who just uploaded the file. But, if I go to the file Properties, it has the correct date and creator name. Has anyone got the some issue before? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks ------------------------------------------------------------------ Edit So, it seems this only happens for a specific user when using the "explorer view" to copy files.
Hide version history from external users (link sharing)
Hi all, I would like to hide the version history of our documents in Sharepoint from all external users, no matter how they collaborate on our documents (read and edit / invited through "All" link or specifically, etc.). In other words, I would like to set Sharepoint up so only internal users can ever see version histories. Is that possible? I've been researching and googling like crazy and I can't find anything. Can anybody help? Thanks a lot, Barbara
