A couple of months ago Microsoft announced the Windows Subsystem for Linux 2 (WSL 2), which is a successor of the Windows Subsytem for Linux shipped a couple of years ago. WSL 2 is currently available for Windows Insiders running Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 18917 or higher and with the Docker Tech Preview, you can now even run Docker Linux Container directly on WSL 2. With the latest Windows Server Insider Preview build 18945, you are also able to run WSL 2 on Windows Server. In this blog post, I am going to show you how you can install the Windows Subsystem for Linux 2 (WSL 2) on Windows Server. The Windows Subsystem for Linux was already available in earlier versions of Windows Server; however, WSL 2 brings a lot of new advantages. Just getting involved with Insider Preview...upgraded 2019 Datacenter (latest official release) to 20262. After the upgrade, downloaded and ran the Linux Kernel update package. When running WSL commands from the command-line, almost every command I run returns the same output that wsl --help enumerates. If I run wsl --set-default-version 2, it enumerates the help context. Did I miss a step to get this to work or is this a known bug?38KViews6likes35CommentsWindows Server 2022 (Hyper-V) AVMA-Keys
Hi, I got Windows Server 2022 Datacenter (Hyper-V) via Visual-Studio Subscription (MSDN) to test our environment with Windows Server 2022. I am now looking for the AVMA keys for Windows Server 2022. Where can I find the keys? MichaelSolved29KViews2likes2CommentsHyper-V server 2019 - Max RAM for guest limited to 12 GB?
Hi, I am trialling Hyper-V server 2019. The server is HP Proliant ML30 Gen 10 with 32 GB RAM. When I check the RAM in the Hyper-V server it shows 32 GB (with systeminfo). However when I try to create a VM (Gen 1 or 2) the maximum RAM I can allocate is 12 GB (12,582,912). What am I doing wrong here? or is this a limitation with the free Hyper-V servevr 2019? Hi Mary, It's been a month since your last update on the availability of the Hyper-V Server 2019 download and I'm just wondering if enough progress has been made to at least provide a speculative ETA? (i.e. month, quarter, year) For folks still on 2012 R2, it's not worth jumping to 2016 with 2019 more or less available. Cheers, LainSolved8.8KViews3likes18CommentsWindows Server 2019 Preview Build 17623 Hyper-V Issue
Hello Everyone, just downloaded the Windows Server 2019 Preview Build 17623 and commenced to build an environment using Hyper-V. The Hyper-V role installed successfully after a restart and I created my first VM in the Hyper-V management console, yet when I try to start up the VM I get the error " Virtual machine <VMname> could not be started because the hypervisor is not running". Virtualization is enabled in the BIOS on the server and I have removed / reinstalled the Hyper-V role as well. To confirm that it wasn't the physical hardware I installed Server 2016 with the Hyper-V role and the created VM started without any issues. Has anyone else come across this Hyper-V issue in the Windows Server 2019 Preview Build 17623?8.7KViews0likes12CommentsLive Migration fails with "Disconnected VM Switch(s)" error on 17639 S2D cluster
I did an in-place upgrade of a 17623 S2D cluster to 17639 and live migrations now fail with Event ID 21502: "Live migration of (VM) failed. (VM) failed to live migrate to the destination (SERVER) because the destination has disconnected VM switch(s)." There are no disconnected VM switches and it worked in 17623. I have tried recreating the VM switches to no avail. I also get the same error after a clean install and setup of the cluster. The only way I can get the VMs to live migrate is to disconnect the virtual NIC in the VM settings first. I also submitted this to the Feedback Hub.8.4KViews0likes4Comments
