files on demand
4 TopicsKFM with vs without Files On Demand: Need to decide and Need Pros, Cons of each?
We're getting ready to deploy OD4B with KFM. There's some disagreement in my Project Team about whether to include mandatory Files On Demand (FOD) in the GPO. With a few exceptions AFAIK disk space on laptops is not an issue with local data. (It WILL be once we move the network personal drives to OD4B). AFAIK the 'M' in KFM means 'migration/move,' not 'copy'. I also know that FOD replaces all local content with pointers to OD4B, the location(s) of which can then be managed by the users with a simple right-click. Files no longer live locally and require internet connectivity to access unless/until changed. What I don't know is what the specific difference would be during the initial deployment & ongoing use of OD4B with KFM if we DO NOT include FOD. Would it be a 'copy' operation of the KFM contents to OD4B, with the status set by default to 'Locally Available?' I'm wanting FOD, as it gives us a true authoritative and single source for user data, which they can switch back/forth as needed. Others think there will be hand-wringing and support problems if users forget to click on a file to make it locally available on their device outside of Internet access. All advice/suggestions/experience appreciated!1.2KViews0likes0CommentsFiles on demand - difference in 'locally available' and 'always available' files
I'm a bit confused with the two ways that a file can be saved to view offline. What is the difference between the 'locally available' files and 'always available' files? I saw the overview online, but it doesn't really tell me if the locally available files are cached somewhere or what... Will locally available files that aren't opened after a certain amount of time go back to 'online only' or ...? Thx in advance!Solved45KViews9likes20CommentsFiles On Demand settings lost on a fresh Windows 10 install
Hi All In my company, i use Windows 10 + OneDrive for Business + Files On Demand. The main reason is that i store a loooot of data in OneDriver, most of them i don't need locally and anyway my company laptop hard disk is smaller than the size od data i am allowed store in the cloud. My company IT Dept sometimes need to reinstall out laptops with a fresh Windows 10 install. But in that case, my Files On Demand settings are lost, ie OneDrive on the fresh Windows 10 install will start dowloading again EVERYTHING from the cloud and i have to set-up manually again my folder-by-folder setting of Files On Demand, with is extremely long to do and almost impossible since i can not remember the setting for each folder. It also make the download extremely long for nothing as the vast majority of my data is only needed in the cloud. Is there a way no to loose this Files On Demand setting on a fresh Windows 10 install, ie to have this setting stored not locally on the client side but on the server side ? I use ODFB build 18.025.0204.0010 with "Files On-Demand" feature turned on with Windows 1803 - 10.0.17134.81, yet not all folders are synced locally and I can't get back to select "what folders to sync" menu due to "Files on-Demand" feature enabled. Is it by design or considered a known bug?Solved1.9KViews0likes3Comments
