Hi all, I have a situation where my environment is in a hybrid state with users ready to migrate. Some users are over 100GB but less 240GB, the Microsoft article on migrating large mailboxes says i have to provision the cloud archive first, but the documentation on this says i need a license. What's confusing me is if assign a license before they migrate this creates a whole new mailbox and all sorts of screwy thing happen and you have to clean up etc.. so, you instead assign the license after the migration.., but the cloud archive docu. is saying I need to assign a license for the cloud archive first. Has this changed where i can create the Cloud archive on-prem and migrate without needing a mailbox? am i missing something?166Views0likes1CommentAD domain segregation and sequence
Hi Team, We are working on AD separation project wherein we will going to have new domain setup and then migrate O365 services (user mailboxes and SharePoint ) for few users from existing tenant to new O365 tenant. Messaging environment is in hybrid with on premise exchange in existing domain. Tools we are considering are : ADMT and BitTitan for Tenant to Tenant. Though I have below draft but identified few below GAPS . Need inputs . I understand the below high level steps : 1. setup new domain . Migrate users from existing to new domain . 2. Setup Azure AD connect and synch users to new O365 tenant 3. Migrate O365 user mailboxes from existing tenant to new O365 Tenant. GAP - Since mailbox migration will take sometime to move to new tenant. What will happen to email access during this time? How do we deal with free/busy between the scenario between users in 2 seprate domins with seprate O365 tenant? 4. Migrate SP to new O365 SP Objective is to avoid disruption to users and making migration error free. Any pointers/or if have any document /article link from MS that would talk about the right sequencing for such migrations will help. Hi All, We are looking at doing a cutover migration with our current Exchange 2010 DAG setup to exchange online. We have about 112 users to move so going with the cutover. We're going that way also to remove the ned of having an onsite exchange presents. Only thing that's I've been reading about is that you need to disable DirSync to perform the cutover migration. My question(s) are 1. Will disabling DirSync (which will move all users into the deleted users) stop SSO access to our over products we use day in and day out. 2. Does having an already synced Azure AD impact on the migration, IE will it duplicate users/mailboxes 3. Does having no exchange presences onsite with DirSync enabled (After migration) cause issues? we have no plan on moving back to onsite. We do plan on keeping users onsite and in azure with the Sync Thanks a bunch, I cant find any documentation that covers our specific scenario1.9KViews0likes1CommentWhy is RetentionHoldEnabled set to true during hybrid migration?
I noticed that my retention policies weren't being applied after migrating from Exchange 2010 to Office 365. I found this article indicating RetentionHoldEnabled is set to true during the migration and it needs to be disabled for your retention policies to function. What is the reason for this? Is there any issue with disabling this on all of the migrated mailboxes? https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3194755/retention-policy-no-longer-works-after-a-mailbox-is-moved-from-the-on2KViews0likes0CommentsConfiguring your Exchange hybrid deployment, in a nutshell
This less than 5-min video provides key information on how to setup an Exchange Hybrid Deployment. In addition, the articles below contain updates on topics covered by this video, along with their main takeaways, in bold. Subtitles in brazilian portuguese (my native language) are also available, which can be enabled/disabled from the built-in YouTube player. Enjoy!!! Hybrid deployment best practices "Should we have a hybrid specific URL? - We have seen deployments where a decision is made to keep the existing Mail.Contoso.com and Autodiscover.Contoso.com pointing to a bank of Exchange 2010 servers and have a new hybrid URL, such as hybrid.Contoso.com, pointing to a couple of Exchange 2013 servers. This is an example of an environment that did not introduce Exchange 2013 in a recommended way. "Some might ask: “Can I keep just my hybrid server up to date?” The answer: there is no such thing as a “hybrid server” (meaning that companies shouldn't add Exchange servers exclusively for hybrid, unless the sizing says it differently). What this question is really asking is: “Can I just update the server were I plan to run the Hybrid Configuration Wizard (HCW) from?” The answer to that is “No.”" Hybrid deployment prerequisites "Before you create and configure a hybrid deployment using the Hybrid Configuration wizard, your existing on-premises Exchange organization needs to meet certain requirements. If you don't meet these requirements, you won't be able to complete the steps within the Hybrid Configuration wizard and you won't be able to configure a hybrid deployment between your on-premises Exchange organization and Exchange Online." Exchange Queue & A: Handling hybrid environments "With older hybrid servers—that is, hybrid servers running Exchange 2010—you need to create an Autodiscover record in DNS for all SMTP domains. Also, the SAN certificate has to include all used autodiscover DNS records in the SAN list. With the Autodiscover domain feature, you have the option of setting one of your SMTP domains as the Autodiscover domain. This is indeed a great new feature of Exchange Server 2013." Introducing the Microsoft Office 365 Hybrid Configuration Wizard "This article tells you what’s new and shows you how to run the wizard. We also explain the various issues that have been addressed with the new Wizard, and touch on some of the telemetry we pull with every run of the wizard." Hybrid Configuration wizard "This topic gives you an overview of the Exchange hybrid deployment configuration process, hybrid deployment features and options available to you, and the Hybrid Configuration Engine, which executes the core actions necessary for both configuring and updating a hybrid deployment." Exchange Hybrid Product Key Distribution Add multiple domains to Office 365 *** UPDATE on 10/17/2017: Added a note to the top of this post to make it clear that there's actually not such a thing as hybrid servers. Thanks so much Tiago Souza for the feedback!14KViews2likes1CommentExchange Online - Safe List Confusion
Hello, We just switched from Mimecast to Microsoft Defender for Office 365 (ATP). I'm a little confused about best practice with using Microsoft's SPAM filters (I had a similar question with Mimecast as well). Why does Microsoft say it's best practice to not add email addresses to the safelist (per documentation), yet prompts the users to add email addresses to their own safelist? Our users get prompted if they want to trust the sender in order to see HTML images in email. I assume this does the same thing as the global safe/allow list and bypasses some of the filtering in place. ThanksSolved1.6KViews0likes2Comments
