Excel puzzle - can't type into cell, exhausted support steps, need a tech wizard !
Excel desktop app on Mac won't let me edit cells (Word is fine) already tried a full uninstall/reinstall with support MacBook Air, macOS Tahoma 26.2 - Microsoft 365 Premium subscription - Excel for Mac, Version 16.111.1 Problem: In the Excel desktop app I can navigate the sheet and select/highlight cells, but I cannot type into a cell or into the formula bar Already tried with a Microsoft support agent: 1. Confirmed subscription is active 2. Removed the Office license from Keychain Access 3. Fully removed the Office apps, emptied the Trash. 4. Reinstalled Office from account.microsoft.com 5. Result: Excel still won't let me type in a cell or in the formula bar, even in a new book 6. "Allow editing directly in cells" enabled. 8. Confirmed the keyboard itself is fine: Cmd+C works inside Excel, types normally in TextEdit 9. Opened Excel in safe mode (held Shift while launching) and creating a new blank workbook — issue persisted. Microsoft support agent confirmed this isn't a subscription/activation issue and isn't a general keyboard/OS issue, since Word, TextEdit, and Excel's own search box all accept input normally — the problem is specifically isolated to typing into a cell or the formula bar in Excel. Any ideas on what else could be blocking keyboard input specifically in Excel's grid/formula bar (e.g. a stuck editing mode, add-in, or accessibility permission specific to Excel) would be ! VERY ! appreciated.
GLSU Excel add-in fails to load after Office update from Version 2607 to 2608
Our Excel add-in, Process Runner GLSU , fails to load after Microsoft Office updates from Version 2607 to Version 2608. This started August 17, 2026 and is actively growing in scope. Error messages: Excel: Cannot run the macro 'onLoad' VBA: System Error &H80004005 (-2147467259). Unspecified error VBA: Compile error in hidden module: ThisWorkbook Has anyone encountered similar issue with their own custom add-on. If yes, any pointers to fix it. We are seeking help on priority. One time purchase 2022 Office Home Edition failed to activate
I bought a 2022 Office Home Edition on a one time basis in 2022 and installed on my Mac which has worked well over the year. Then, suddenly on 13 July this year, its Excel disallowed me to save and edit, saying I need to subscribe Office 365, etc in order to activate. I don't know what is going on. Is XML in Power Query is broken on macOS
Hello, XML from Power Query seems to have broken after update (July 2nd 2026). I tried this on several Macs To recreate just create a new file. Power Query -> XML -> Choose any xml file For me it doesn’t work. It keeps loading endlessly Am I the only one? Is there a workaround? Thank you
Issue: numbered labels appear over the Excel ribbon when pressing Option
Description When I press the Option (⌥) key in Excel for Mac, numbered/lettered labels appear overlaid on every tab and button of the ribbon. The pattern is: Over the ribbon tabs (Home, Insert, Draw, Page Layout, Formulas, Data, Review, View): numbers 1 through 9. Over the Quick Access Toolbar icons: a descending then ascending sequence: 09, 08, 07, 06, 05, 04, 03, 02, 01, 0A, 0B, 0C, 0D. The labels disappear instantly when I press Esc. This does not happen in any other application (tested in TextEdit and Finder by pressing Option: nothing appears). Version information Excel version: 16.77.1 (Build 23091703) When checking for updates from Excel (Help > Check for Updates), I get the message: "This product is no longer supported. Support for this product has ended, and in-product help is no longer available or maintained." Troubleshooting steps already taken (no success) I have methodically ruled out the following causes: System Accessibility (System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility): only Google Drive is listed, and it's toggled off. Input Monitoring: no items listed. Screen & System Audio Recording: no items listed. Switch Control: disabled. Excel KeyTips (Excel > Preferences > Accessibility): this section does not exist in my version of Excel — only the "Accessibility Checker" appears, with no KeyTips option or "Activation keystroke" setting. Excel Add-ins (Tools > Excel Add-ins): only "Analysis ToolPak" and "Solver Add-In" appear, both unchecked/inactive. Third-party automation apps (Keyboard Maestro, BetterTouchTool, Alfred, Raycast, Hammerspoon, Kutools, etc.): none installed on the Mac. Background processes (Activity Monitor): no suspicious process is running at the time the issue occurs, aside from normal system/Office processes. Office's internal preference files via Terminal (defaults read com.microsoft.Excel, com.microsoft.shared, com.microsoft.office): no key related to "KeyTips", "AccessKey", "Alt", "Option", or "Hint" was found. Question for support Is this a known behavior in older/unsupported builds of Excel for Mac (build 23091703)? Is there any way to disable this feature — whether through a hidden preference, a corrupted configuration file — or would a full reinstall of Excel be the only solution? Excel Find / Command-F crashing on Mac Tahoe (Office 2019 / Excel 16.78) – anyone else? Mac mini + Tahoe 26.5. Excel 16.78 (Office Home & Student 2019). Problem started after recent Tahoe update. Classic Find is behaving badly and often crashes Excel. Workflow: click/select a column Edit → Find → Find… or Command-F search for text or email fragments (ex: "kristin" or part of an email) Excel may crash or Find becomes unusable Things already tried: full Excel reinstall blank workbook test new macOS test user Office container reset / plist tests preference resets same Tahoe version confirmed Upper-right Microsoft Search appears, but that is not equivalent to classic worksheet Find for email-column workflow. Question: Is this a known Tahoe / Excel 16.78 Find bug or Search-routing issue? Has anyone fixed this or seen it resolved with a newer Excel build or update?
