Hi, We are in the middle of moving over to Exchange online from an Exchange 2010 organisation. We have AD connect working ok and office 365 is integrated to a certain degree. Mail flow is working correctly between on premises and online however, we still have email coming in to our org and then being passed to Exchange online plus sending email is coming from online through our org then out to the internet. We have moved over all our users pretty much to online now and repointed their outlook clients. All seemed to be ok however, we have a wierd issue with a distribution group that was created pre the move. This is probably the same issue for all our distribution groups I am am guessing. basically, a user wants send as permissions for the DG. I have added the permissions on our exchange 2010 server through powershell and also checked in the security permissions of the distribution group object in AD. It is there. however, the user cannot send emails on behalf of the distribution group. She has an online mailbox. I forced a sync in AD connect but still no luck. In exchange online, I can see the distribution group but the send as permissions are not in the grant delegation area. I suspect that this is not supported but i dont now how to fix it. If anyone has any insights or ideas please let me know. We have not moved fully to Azure AD so on premises is readwrite and online AD is read only. thanks in advance for any help! Hello I've searched for this and all I can find is the opposite of what I wish to do. At present, we have distribution groups set up in our Office 365 tenancy. When someone sends a message to a group the group address is selected and the message created and a copy of the message is sent to every member of that group. However, when replying, the group address automatically populates the To: field. This is undesirable as sometimes a group message is used to request information, and if someone replies and does not realise the group address is being replied to, potentially sensitive information will be sent to every member of the group. Is there a way to configure this so that the Outlook (and Outlook on the Web) reply button replies to the sender - i.e. the person whom the message was sent by, and the sender that is shown in the Inbox/folder when the message is closed? Or, if that is not possible, is there a way to configure those applications (so that Reply presents a choice between replying to the group or just to the original sender? I created a 365 group for a department, so they can collaborate. I also use the group's email address as a distribution list, encouraged by Microsoft when I tried to create a distro list. But here is the rub - a person who is external to our organization is also member of the group so that the department can collaborate with them, but when an email is sent to the group, this external person gets it too, which is not what we want. How can an external be a member of a group for collaboration without receiving emails sent to the group? At the end of the day, they are external and don't need to be notified of internal things. As a patch, I modified the Group's email address, adding "ext" at the end, and created an old-school Distribution list with the department's name only. Is that the only "solution"? Thanks!8.2KViews0likes7CommentsSMS texting via Exchange 365 distribution group not received by all recipients.
I have been fighting this issue for several months and it has come to a head. I have a distribution group with 14 contact entries. Each entry is an SMS text number. IE 1234567890@carrier.com Not that it matters, but each of the contacts display names begin with "Text-" then their first name. "IE Text-Fred, Text-Sue, etc." See attached. I've scratched the names and number out for privacy reasons. 1. If I email each contact entry in the list individually, one at a time (IE One email message per text number in the "to" field) , the text is received by that individual on their phone. 2. If I put all of the contact entries of the group in the "To:" field as individuals, (IE 14 different "text-name" entries in the "to" field of ONE email), all users receive the message on their phones. 3. If I email the distribution group. IE Just put the name of the distribution group in the "to" field, ATT & Sprint users do not receive the message on their phones. the others do. At first I thought perhaps ATT and SPRINT had some sort of block of multiple texts in place, and in this case it's only ONE sprint number. But after successfully sending the texts via step #2 above, it appears to me the Exchange is having difficulty parsing and processing the distribution group properly. How can I troubleshoot this further, solve it, or otherwise get around it. It DOES seem like there is no reason it shouldn't work. AM I the only one with this issue? I have tried this on two different outlook clients. 2010 and 2013 AND OWA with the same results. Is there any way to see where the system is breaking down? Where do I go from here? Thank you.Solved8.2KViews0likes2CommentsCalendar of a Distribution Group in new Outlook
We have a Distribution Group in O365, which contains all members of a team. When you add this Distribution Group to the calendar, you can see the calendar of each team member. This way the admin can just update the Distribution Group with new team members, and everyone has gets the updated list of calendars. In the current Outlook you need to disable "Turn on shared calendar improvements" for this to work as described https://blog.icewolf.ch/archive/2023/06/22/outlook-calendar-you-cant-add-distribution-list-to-calendar-group/. But in the "new" Outlook I can't add the calendars via the Distribution Group, and the option from the "old" Outlook is gone. Does anyone have a solution for this?7.6KViews4likes2CommentsSending an email to a Distribution List that includes sender without sender receiving that email
I have several Distribution List which my company uses as a group to send emails to many recipients. Users are complaining that they don't want to receive the email that they send to a Distribution List which also includes them as a member. For example, I have a Distribution List that contains me and my team of 5 people and I want to send an email to everyone in my team without having to enter an email of each team member so I enter the Distribution List name in the To box. After hitting send, that email will be delivered to my inbox as well because I'm one of the list members. Is it possible to prevent this? I'm open to other suggestions to send an email to my team without receiving that email back in my inbox. Note that if other List members want to do the same, they don't want to receive their own emails as well. Thanks!5.6KViews0likes1CommentGroup owner cannot manage distribution list membership
I have a distribution list for our expense system and put myself and our marketing director as group owners. The hope was that she'd be able to manage the members of the group via https://myaccount.microsoft.com/groups/groups-i-own This seems to work with other groups but not this one. There aren't a ton of settings in Exchange/365 for distribution lists so there really isn't a lot of troubleshooting that can be done. Any idea why this group won't show up?5KViews0likes2CommentsDynamic Distribution Group User Exclusion Recipient Filter
I have a dynamic distribution group that uses Office locations for its recipient filter. It is able to pick up all of the users needed, however, there are a few service accounts I want to exclude from the dynamic group. I know the easy answer is to remove the Office info from the service accounts, however I'd prefer not to. As I'm using this example as a test for excluding users from future dynamic distribution groups that we're going to be migrating to exchange online. Here is an example of the recipient filter in use: $filter = "((Office -eq 'Spokane, WA') -or (Office -eq 'Sandpoint, ID') -and (RecipientType -eq 'UserMailbox') -and (RecipientTypeDetails -eq 'UserMailbox')) -and (-not(UserPrincipalName -like 'email address removed for privacy reasons' -or 'email address removed for privacy reasons')))" The service accounts still appear in the dynamic group's recipient list.2.9KViews0likes3Comments
