25 TopicsEdge browser 100% CPU, requires Force Quit (macOS Mojave and v91.0.864.48)
I'm reporting a problem I've experienced with Edge since I began using it six months ago. After using Edge for a few hours, it will begin using 100% CPU. According to the Task Manager, it is the "Browser" thread that is using this CPU. If I Quit the application, all the windows close but it doesn't fully quit; I have to do command-option-esc to open the Force Quit window (where it says "Microsoft Edge (not responding)" and then I'm able to Force Quit it. When I relaunch it and re-open the web pages I was using, it works fine (until later that day or the next day, when the process repeats). Does anyone know how I can troubleshoot this so I can file a useful bug report? This has happened many times over the past 6 months, over many different Edge versions (I'm always using the latest stable version). I'm not able to reproduce the issue when I want, but it happens regularly every or every-other day. I'm using macOS Mojave 10.14.6 on a 2015 MacBook Pro. My canary version 115.0.1834.0 crashes when opened, everytime. I have windows 10. When i rename the User Data folder to something else, the edge runs perfectly but without my user data ðŸ˜. Edge insider Version 81.0.370.0 (Official build) canary (64-bit) in edge://settings/clearBrowserData when I select all checkboxes and set time range to all time, to remove everything, after clicking on "clear now" button, Edge crashes. tried this 3 times in a row and same crash happened. Hi, I've been having this problem with Edge insider Canary for almost more than a month, right now it's Version 79.0.305.0 (Official build) canary (64-bit) and the problem still exists. I thought it would fix on its own but no matter how much I waited, it's not getting fixed.. this problem used to happen on my system having Intel i7 7700K and now it's happening on my system running Intel i9 9900K. happens on a variety of Windows 10 insider builds, now it's 18999 1/4 of Intel i9 9900K is used by Edge insider! that's really too much processing power. and it happens very often. most of the time it happens on https://vk.com/feed, YouTube.com and on this forum. I Can't tell what is causing this because: 1. when it happens, the browser hangs and CPU usage and temperature keeps going up until I have to force close Edge from the task manager or keep clicking on the X button on that problematic tab until it comes out of hanging state for at least 1 millisecond and decides to registers my mouse click and closes that tab. 2. when it happens, the browser task manager also hangs so I can't check anything. 3. when it happens, it also prevents me from using feedback smiley button and its problem recording feature. I previously asked developers to Separate that feedback and problem recording functionality from the browser core so that when problems like this happens and the browser itself goes into hanging state and becomes unresponsive, the feedback section would be responsive at all times and record what is wrong with the browser. the problem is not related to any flags or browser settings, not related to smart screen, neither is it related to extensions, I've tested all of that. Hey there, Yesterday i spoke with a guy from Microsoft's Support (the official one ofcourse) for like.. 4 hours... trying to resolve my Microsoft Edge crashing and the autofill on several websites (including microsoft.com itself) to not function, like.. it pops up but i can't press any of the saved items. Does anyone.. have a clue at all? The Support person already tried reinstalling, clearing cookies, cache, extensions etc etc.. it's just not working. PROBLEM (PP): 3 Classification: EXTENSIONS PRIORITY IN MY OPINION: 6 on a scale from 1 (low) to 10 (high) 1) Today i talk about a problem that i already reported to Google **1137157&hotlist_id=10394 and i see frequently in Edge too. I search i search and i search extension in the toolbar or extension box and i never find it. Since i have over 250 profiles, sometimes is difficult to remember if i installed it or not. So i try to reinstall the extension, and then i get such message. So Edge deactivated my extension. Like i asked to Google, i wish you could add a new panel for deactivated extensions and a way to reactivate at once all extensions. 2) Similar problem is ***1134182&hotlist_id=10394 about deactivated extension after sync activation which i have never seen until now in Edge (hope i will never see too). In case this happens in Edge too, add ability to approve all extensions at once, instead of showing me 20+ notifications for each edge profile. If you implement the deactivate panel like 1) we would fix this problem too. 3) since we are talking about extensions, i report you *1144126&hotlist_id=10394 another problem i noted recently in chrome, in the hope that edge dev can fix it, if this problem is available in edge too. i noted this problem even with 360chrome. 8+ minutes where you simply showed me 200 notifications about extensions crash. Please check that you avoid to show me 1000 messages if there is a total crash. At least in google was automatically, in 360chrome i needed to approve each crash one by one; after 20 i relaunched the browser (much faster). 4) about google chrome removed extension topic ***1143025&hotlist_id=10394 i haven't tested this in edge until now (or i have never seen such message), but would be cool that edge is able to sync deleted extensions (marked as malware by google) from chrome store (extensions, that are not available in edge store). Or to sync manual added extensions. we all know that google delete extensions in batch, would be cool that we can still use such extensions, that worked fine for months. Maybe you are already able to do that, or maybe not. I will test this in future. There are other problem with chrome, but not related to the topic extensions, so i prefer to report such problems only once i see in edge too.1.6KViews1like2Comments
