Howdy, y'all. I've just been hired into a new office, and as the only member of Gen Z to be employed, I've been summarily appointed to the media committee, which includes thinking through the ways that we communicate with one another effectively. The issue that's driving me up a wall at the moment is our calendar management. We have an Excel sheet saved as a tab within one of our Teams channels that lists every employee's status in the office for every day of the year. This is helpful for a couple of reasons: We work in healthcare and must have one person on-call at all times. There are two on-call shifts per day; one from 8 AM to 8 PM, and one from 8 PM to 8 AM. There must be a minimum number of staff people working during regular weekdays (that is, aside from the on-call staffer, we must also be able to see that there are at least a couple people aside from the on-call person who are in the office during a regular week, so that the office isn't completely empty around Christmas and so on). For this, we usually look at the row for the day of the month and the column for the employee's name, with the intersecting cell being filled in with the time of their shift. In addition to the two on-call shifts per day, one person will be designated as "substitute" for one 24-hour period. If either the AM or PM on-call person call out, the substitute will clock in to replace them. Further, there is a staffer who is designated as the support member for an entire week's time. Should the on-call person have questions or concerns, the support member will be able to answer their call at any time during the week. We typically have it color-coded so we know by taking a glance at the day who is on AM, who is on PM, who is substituting, and who is backup. This is an example: Staff A Staff B Staff C Staff D Staff E Staff F Staff G Friday 8/1 8a-8p 8a-4:30p 8p-8a 8a-4:30p 8a-4:30p 8a-4:30p Saturday 8/2 OFF 8a-8p 8p-8a OFF OFF OFF Sunday 8/3 8p-8a OFF 8a-8p OFF OFF OFF Monday 8/4 OFF 8p-8a OFF 8a-8p 8a-4:30p 8a-4:30p Tuesday 8/5 8a-8p OFF OFF 8p-8a 8a-4:30p 8a-4:30p Wednesday 8/6 8a-4:30p 8p-8a OFF 8a-8p 8a-4:30p 8a-4:30p KEY: AM on-call PM on-call Support Obviously, this way of keeping track of things is archaic and has led to chaos. Is there a better way somewhere in Teams/Outlook/SharePoint calendar, or in some other application that can connect to this workspace? We run basically everything in our department out of Teams85Views1like1CommentAnyone else intermittently losing the Immersive Space (3D) option off of the View menu?
Anyone else having this issue? I've been doing a lot in Teams Immersive Spaces. It has worked in New Teams for most of the year. I've demonstrated it in front of live audiences successfully for most of the year too. Until about two weeks ago. I was in front of an audience, went to show them how it works on a Business Standard tenant I've had for about 10 months, and boom, no Immersive Space (3D) on the View menu. I have all the right settings, the right licenses, and it has been working fine until now. It doesn't matter if I am doing a "meet now" or a scheduled meeting. Alone, or with others invited. I've made sure my version is up to date. I've removed and reinstalled Teams, I've tried it with other accounts, I've done a reset and a repair. I've rebooted the computer. I've tried it on other Windows 11 machines with Teams. I have an enterprise tenant, also was able to use Immersive Spaces in Teams, that also has this issue using the clients on my computers. It is intermittent. Some of my friends who tried it for me, can see it on the menu (including on the Mac), some can't. It often works once, then the Immersive Space (3D) menu item then disappears, and even a quit and restart of Teams won't bring it back. It does seem to be more dependable on the Mesh admin trial licenses than the paid for Teams Premium licenses for some reason. Not sure if that's a red herring, but I thought I'd mention it. Also, occasionally, the users I invite (if I do a scheduled meeting and not a meet now), will show up briefly as unknown, when they've had the right licensing for a while, but this disappearing menu item thing happens even with no one else invited. Anyone else having this issue with Teams? Have you found a fix? I've just really gotten people comfortable using the feature, and now it's not dependable.335Views2likes1CommentHow to Create a Teams Avatar from a Photo
I’ve used Teams avatars for a couple of years but never liked them all that much. The chance to create a Teams avatar from a photo seemed liked a great idea. Alas, the results obtained from uploading a professional headshot photo or from an image captured by the PC’s camera didn’t live up to expectations. The avatar is closer to my reality, but not by much. https://office365itpros.com/2025/01/03/create-a-teams-avatar-from-a-photo/115Views0likes0CommentsIssue with Microsoft Mesh App in Teams
Hi Everyone, I was wondering if anyone else has been experiencing issues with adding the mesh app into Teams? When trying to add to a meeting or channel, I press add and it brings up a blank screen. This happens in the new / old windows client as well as the web app. I have no issue in accessing the mesh windows app, and have had several meetings through here, as well as on a meta quest device.3KViews0likes3CommentsTeams No Longer Showing Options to Choose a Background or Blur the Background
Windows 10 22H2 Teams v1.7.00.3653 Tried clearing Teams cache Tried uninstalling/reinstalling Teams completely (removed via Programs and features the went into my user profile and cleared the junk left behind) Tried Teams Classic, Teams for Work or School, New Teams, Old Teams... I even tried Teams Premium. I also tried making changes within the Teams admin console for Microsoft 365. All of these were equally (un)successful... Tried Windows updates Backgrounds used to work. A user at my organization reported the issue last month. I tested and found that I have the same issue. I have no idea when the issue occurred and I can't tell you if it was an update that caused it. I even tried populating the New Teams backgrounds location with a background from the Microsoft website. Without the option available to select it, there is no way to add it. Also per my comment at the top, I do not have the option to blur the background. Is there a registry entry that maybe got lost that I can recreate or some files and or folders that I can dump into the Teams files within AppData? I am grasping at straws. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.2KViews0likes5CommentsExploring solutions for advanced management of presence and status in Microsoft Teams
Hello, our company heavily utilizes Microsoft Teams for both internal and external communication, but we are facing specific challenges that we're looking to overcome. We are particularly interested in exploring innovative solutions like Mesh for Microsoft Teams as well as other potential add-ons or custom policies that might enhance our management of employee presence and status. Here’s a summary of our needs: 1. Monitoring Actual Presence of Employees: we struggle to accurately determine the physical presence of our collaborators during the workday. We're interested in finding out if there are any policies or add-ons that can integrate with Teams to provide more precise indications of presence. 2. Detecting the Actual Status of Employees: we often find that the automatic presence status in Teams does not accurately reflect an employee’s real availability. We would be interested in discovering tools that improve this functionality, perhaps through more sophisticated integrations that consider real calendar commitments. 3. Improving Cooperation and Work Group Organization: we are looking for solutions that can facilitate better organization of common activities and enhance the effectiveness of communication. 4. Recreating Typical In-Person Work Situations: with the increase in remote work, we want to implement tools that help recreate the spontaneity of face-to-face encounters, such as virtual coffee breaks or spaces for casual meetings. We are open to exploring Mesh for Microsoft Teams but also other solutions that might include specific add-ons or policy configurations that enhance these functionalities. Does anyone have experiences or advice to share on how to optimize the use of Teams in these areas? Thank you very much for any help or suggestions you can offer!550Views0likes0CommentsAvatars
I am looking to enable the option to use Avatars in Teams for our organization and wanted to set up a policy where a few people can test by having access to the Avatar app. When I go to apps and search, I don't even see the Avatar app in our instance - whether blocked or not. We are a GCC client. Is it not available to us? Or do you have advice on how to find it?611Views2likes0CommentsIs there a way to get profile pictures to show up in chats and posts
In slack, everytime someone posts or sends a direct message, their avatar or icon shows their picture. My clients want that feature. In Teams we can change our profile picture but chats and posts only show the circle with initials. How do I make chats and posts show the pictures? For your reference, here is an example in Slack and in Teams: Slack: Teams:4.1KViews0likes10Comments
