Word Online
3 TopicsWord Online issue: "Error The file is currently checked out or locked for editing by another user"
We've got an issue with Word Online in our SharePoint Server 2016 (on-prem) environment. If you open a document in a doc library in Word Online (i.e. in the browser) and start editing it, your editing session is retained even after closing the document. Then, if you try to do anything with the document properties like change the title or check it out or delete it, you get an error. Deleting it, for example, results in "the file is currently checked out or locked for editing by another user". For extra fun, if you then reopen the doc in your browser, you get ANOTHER editing session logged that is retained. You can see these piled up on top of each other when you open the doc in the Word client and review the "Share" panel. This seems like a problem with Word Online, since the issue persists even after clearing browser cache and using different browsers. There is a SharePoint Site Collection feature called "Open Documents in Client Applications by Default" which when activated, any library where you click on a office document it will open in the thick client. However in these document library, if a user click "New" it creates a new document and opens it in the browser. Is there a way to prevent this functionality? I would like new and existing documents to all open in the client application, not just existing.Solved11KViews0likes10CommentsHero Web Part with Word Document
Hi, I cannot add a Word document from the site to the Hero Web Part, Excel & PowerPoint work OK but word does not. The word documents do not even display in the pop up document explorer when using the add from site option. Does anyone else have this issue or have a fix? Thanks Toby.2.2KViews0likes5Comments
