Hi, I've got 4 Windows 2022 servers configured for automatic updates using the following Group Policy option on the 3rd Wednesday of each month: 2 - Notify for download and auto install These servers are meant to have Windows updates manually installed by an Administrator. One of those servers stopped reporting to WSUS and it turns out the computer certificate (issued by an internal Microsoft CA) was missing. Once that was resolved, it reported to WSUS correctly. To test, I ran the following commands: usoclient.exe startscan Get-WindowsUpdate Several minutes after running the above commands, Event ID 44 was generated by the Windows Update Client downloading the updates. This was quickly followed by Event ID 43 where it started installing the updates. And about 12 hours later at 11:58PM, Event ID 1074 was generated where svchost.exe on behalf of NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM initiated a reboot. 2 minutes later at 12:00AM, another Event ID 1074 saw TrustedInstaller on behalf of user NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM initiated a reboot. And finally at 12:03am, Event ID 19 was generated saying the update was successfully installed. Event ID 19 was repeated again 1 minute later. As far as I can tell, usoclient.exe startscan and Get-WindowsUpdate without any options does NOT initiated a download and install of the updates. The other 3 servers behaved themselves until an Administrator went in and downloaded and installed the updates. This 1 rogue server decided to take its own initiative and the only difference from the other 3 is the missing computer certificate which was subsequently restored. Any pointers as to how this could happened would be much appreciated. Thanks.55Views0likes1CommentWindows Server update keeps promptiing to install

I have Windows 2016 and 2019 Servers. All in in the same OU and getting the same Group Policy. This is confirmed via gpresult. I am using GP to disable Automatic Updates. This looks to be working in 2019: But with Server 2016, it says this: Should I expect these servers to update?515Views0likes5CommentsAutomatic installation of definition updates
Hi, we use a Windows 2022 environment with a WSUS server. I want to configure WSUS/GPOs in that way that defintion updates, which do not require a reboot will be installed automatically. The normal updates, even if they are permited by wsus, should only be installed when i start the installation at the specific computer/server. Is this/How is this possible? Greetings! Been trying to complete updates for May on my newly built Microsoft Windows Server 2022 that is offline. I installed the OS from the disk and I was able to install the latest updates from March 2024, and April 2024 but for some reason this specific update for May 2024 will not install. I have tried installing it from my WSUS server and even from the Actual update file from the Microsoft update catalog. I have also tried resetting the WindowsUpdate components and the CatRoot2 and the SoftwareDistribution folder but I still keep getting these errors. I am working on a second server install and I will see if I get the same error. I have a Windows 2022 21H2 server that is a domain controller this has happened the last 2 months where the Windows CU do not install. They fail with error 0x800f0831. The CU for .NET installs fine, but the Windows CUs fail every time with the same error. this happened on KB5031364 and on KB5030216. It is a newly build VM that I built a back in August of 2023. I've tried the Windows Update Troubleshooter, Disk Clean up, with and without our Anti-Virus software. BITS is Automatic (Delayed start) and Running, Windows Update is set to Automatic and running. I've tried deleting the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder. I've also tried applying the CUs from Windows update and downloading them directly from the Windows Catalog download site. On a MS Windows Server 2012 Standard the Windows Update offered https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/july-11-2023-kb5028232-monthly-rollup-6bb225ac-13bd-4260-8f11-1c28fa6b0ea0 for installation this month. After server restart I see that the installation was not successful (the update is still offered) and the following was logged in the Event Log: Package KB5028232 failed to be changed to the Installed state. Status: 0x800f0920 I downloaded the update manually from https://catalog.update.microsoft.com and installed but got the same result. Any suggestions how to solve this?Solved3.9KViews0likes3Comments
