Hi everyone, I have a server with Windows Server 2016: For some reason, I cant update Windows, it get freezer with "Preparing to install updates 0%" message. The server is connected to internet and i can navigate without problems. Since 2018 this server is not updated. Someone knows how i can fix this? If Windows Update doesn't works, i can download the updates from a web? Thanks!Solved89KViews0likes7CommentsError 0x80242017 when installing KB5004945 from WSUS (but not from Microsoft)
I have several clients running Win 10 v20H2 that are failing to install the update "2021-07 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 20H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5004945) from our WSUS server with "Status: download error - 0x80242017". However, if I manually log into the workstation and "Check online for updates from Microsoft Update", it downloads and installs the update with no errors. The "Self Contained" cab file for the update is present in the proper directory on the WSUS server, although the two "Express" files are not. The WSUS server is running on Windows Server 2019 v1809. Here's what I've done for troubleshooting on the client side: Run Windows Update Troubleshooter: It can't find any issues. Reset Windows Updates components "manually" using batch script. Run dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth Run sfc /scannow I've attached the System and WindowsUpdateClient event logs, as well as the CBS.log and DISM.log from the workstation I'm troubleshooting with.Solved79KViews0likes16CommentsWINDOWS UPDATE SERVICES NOT START ERROR

Hi all, We have a Windows Server 2019 production server where the cumulative updates keep failing to install since january this year and I'm at my wits end. Currently it's trying to install 2021-02 Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2019 for x64-based Systems (KB4601345) but it keeps failing. I've tried downloading the update directly from Microsoft as well and manually install it on the machine but this fails as well. I then tried clearing out C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download and C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Datastore and re-downloading the updates however this doesn't work either. But it does seem to behave differently after this was done, instead of failing it now goes back to "ready to install". Scratch that, it fails with Error 0x800f0985. I have attached CBS-logs and Windows Update-log.Solved22KViews1like7CommentsWindows Update Failing
I have 8 Virtual Machines all running Windows Server 2016 Standard and all are setup with a Windows Update Group Policy to run on a specific night and time. However, I have one server that continues to fail on the same 2 Windows Updates. Not sure why this server is having issues with the updates, as all the servers are pretty much identical. Any ideas to help me troubleshoot? Here are the 2 updates that continue to fail: 2019-12 Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2016 for x64-based Systems (KB4530689) 2019-07 Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2016 for x64-based Systems (KB4507459)17KViews0likes19CommentsProblem installing Cumulative Update Windows Server 2016
Hi! We have a Citrix VDA running on Windows Server 2016, and trying to install Cumulative Update 2018-10 but after the restart the process stops at 99% and then the installation reverts. Same thing happens when I try Cumulative Update 2018-11. But all the other Updates works, for example: 2018-11, update for Windows Server 2016 We have tried the following things: Renamed the softwaredistribution folder Tried manually install Run DISM-commands with no errors Run SFC /Scannow no errors The error I see in the log is: Event 20, WindowsUpdateClient Installation error: It was not possible to install the Update, cause error 0x800F0922: 2018-10, Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2016 Do anyone here have a suggestion what I could try more? I have a Windows 2022 21H2 server that is a domain controller this has happened the last 2 months where the Windows CU do not install. They fail with error 0x800f0831. The CU for .NET installs fine, but the Windows CUs fail every time with the same error. this happened on KB5031364 and on KB5030216. It is a newly build VM that I built a back in August of 2023. I've tried the Windows Update Troubleshooter, Disk Clean up, with and without our Anti-Virus software. BITS is Automatic (Delayed start) and Running, Windows Update is set to Automatic and running. I've tried deleting the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder. I've also tried applying the CUs from Windows update and downloading them directly from the Windows Catalog download site. Everytime I get the same result, failed 0x800f08318.1KViews1like5CommentsWindows Server 2016 does not install updates at scheduled time
We have an OU for servers that we don't mind if they install Windows Updates and reboot nightly. For some reason, the Server 2016 servers in that OU do not automatically install updates at the time scheduled by the GPO. The settings on the servers appear to be applied correctly, and it does detect that there are updates available... it just doesn't install them at the scheduled time. Settings from relevant Windows Update GPO: WU settings on the server: WU Restart Options on the Server: WU Policy Registry settings on the server: Any suggestions as to why this may be?Solved7.1KViews1like5CommentsWindows Server 2012 won't install KB5028232
On a MS Windows Server 2012 Standard the Windows Update offered https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/july-11-2023-kb5028232-monthly-rollup-6bb225ac-13bd-4260-8f11-1c28fa6b0ea0 for installation this month. After server restart I see that the installation was not successful (the update is still offered) and the following was logged in the Event Log: Package KB5028232 failed to be changed to the Installed state. Status: 0x800f0920 I downloaded the update manually from https://catalog.update.microsoft.com and installed but got the same result. I have 8 servers all running Windows 2016. I have 3 of the servers that will automatically reboot after the Windows Updates complete. The other 5 servers always show "waiting to restart outside of active hours", but they never restart after active hours. I have everything setup in Group Policy so not sure why 3 of the 8 servers reboot and the other 5 never reboot. Where can I look to see what is causing the discrepencies? Thank you for any help.Solved3.3KViews0likes7Comments
