Title:Power BI Performance Troubleshooting Session Outline: First, we'll learn about some of the newest features and updates in Power BI with Joseph Yeates. Next, Daniel Szepesi and Jocelyn Porter will present on troubleshooting performance in Power BI, from Desktop to Log Analytics. Troubleshooting performance on a Software as a Service (SaaS) solution can be very difficult. You don't own the machines anymore so how do you get to performance data? Power BI at its core is Analysis Services Tabular so some of the troubleshooting tools might be familiar to SQL performance people but it has some built-in capability to help isolate performance issues as well. This session will include a discussion of Power BI architecture and then will be a demo-heavy walkthrough of using the Power BI Performance Analyzer, SQL Profiler and Azure Log Analytics to help isolate and resolve performance issues with Power BI.

Title: One file to rule them all... and what is a Star Schema? Session Outline: First, we'll learn about some of the newest features and updates in Power BI. Next, Excel and Power BI trainer, Anne Walsh, will help us understand how to use Star Schemas when data modeling. If you are new to Power BI, you may already have tried to import your single Excel file and found that it didn’t go well. If so, you have likely heard about “Star Schemas” and "Time Intelligence" and why "A Calendar Is Really Important", but you don’t really know how to set any of that up. In this session, we will start off in single file (see what Anne did there...?) and then use Power Query to get our data into separate tables. We will be using one of Ken Puls' super recipes to create a dynamic calendar and then we will create a simple visualization from that. Who knows? Next, we'll learn about Tabular Editor with Microsoft MVP, Sue Bayes. There is a lot of talk about how as a professional Power BI developer, you should use Tabular Editor. Yet when you open it, it’s daunting. Where do you start, what do these buttons do, how long is it going to take for me to learn this, is it really worth it? In this session, we will run through the core components of Tabular Editor in normal, non-programming language. We look at how you can utilise this software to save you time in working with Power BI. Session Objectives: Understand the Tabular Editor interface and its various elements Learn how to use Tabular Editor to create and manage Tabular models Learn how to use key features of Tabular Editor, including the formula bar, expression editor, and DAX functions Understand the difference between Tabular Editor 2 and 3 including when it's time to switch.
