We have people using shared mailboxes, their outlook is in cached mode for the main inbox but for shared mailboxes the cache is off. When they try to search in a shared mailbox, they are getting different results in "Current mailbox" and "Subfolders" even though the message that they are searching for is within the search scope in inbox.... when disabling cached mode for the user profile the search works fine.... It doesn't make sense because "download shared folders" unchecked means that there's no cache for shared mailboxes already so unchecking"Use cached exchange mode to download email to an outlook data file" shouldn't affect shared mailboxes.... Of course Microsoft support is so bad....Adding Office 365 Exchange Active Sync Account to Android Native Email, Calendar and Contacts Apps
Adding Office 365 Exchange Active Sync Account to Android Native Email, Calendar and Contacts Apps If you are using two-factor authentication in Office 365 (AKA multi-factor authentication) you MUST use an App Password instead of your Office 365 Login Password when creating your Exchange Active Sync account on an Android device. Seethe following link to learn how to create an App Password: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Create-an-app-password-for-Office-365-3e7c860f-bda4-4441-a618-b53953ee1183 If you don't use an App password during the setup, you will get the following message: Can't set up account. Authentication failed. As an aside, your domain\user entry should read: \yourusername@contoso.onmicrosoft.com or \yourusername@yourdomain.com Your server name should be: outlook.office365.comUpdate: New upgrade readiness tools for Office 365 ProPlus
Update: The the Readiness Toolkit for Office add-ins and VBA is now available for download. Read more about it on our new post and download the toolkit and start using it today. We are excited to announce new tools to support the application compatibility readiness for Office 365 ProPlus. Over the next year, we will roll out tools to catalogue your organization’s add-ins, assess the status of VBA applications and deliver an improved support for 64-bit VBA. Customers tell us about the importance of application compatibility in their ProPlus upgrade plans and these tools make planning and execution easier. We are releasing them in limited preview now. Reach out to us at ReadyForOffice@microsoft.com to be part of the preview program. The new tools we are creating for application compatibility include: Updates to the Office Telemetry Dashboard New tools for add-in readiness reporting 64-bit common control support Office add-in reporting in Windows Upgrade Analytics In addition to supporting internal add-ins and VBA applications, we are adding more readiness information for Office add-ins from 3rd party ISVs. Later this year, we will publish a searchable list of ISVs who already support Office 365 ProPlus and we’ll start the validation of those popular 3rd party add-ins in the new Office builds, giving you the confidence that your solutions will continue to work with the latest versions of Office. Office Telemetry Dashboard The Office Telemetry Dashboardis an existing solution that helps you to gather inventory and usage information about add-ins used within your organization. We are now extending the Office Telemetry Dashboard to include readiness information. There are three key pieces of readiness information that this tool provides: ProPlus Ready 32 Bit. The add-in is widely adopted and used by enterprise customers in ProPlus and there are no known problems with the add-in ProPlus Ready 64 Bit. A 64-bit version of the add-in is available and widely adopted by enterprise customers in ProPlus and there are no known problems with the add-in ISV Support. The ISV has committed to support the add-in on ProPlus. This information helps you better plan an upgrade by knowing how many of the add-ins are expected to work seamlessly with ProPlus and how widely add-ins with potential issues are used within your organization and in which specific departments. Example of readiness reports include the following: Office 365 ProPlus readiness for add-ins Detailed view of Office 365 ProPlus readiness for add-ins VBA Macro Readiness For enterprises that rely on macro-enabled Office documents to perform business critical tasks, we are pleased to announce the new VBA Readiness Tool. This tool is designed to help your organization identify the most commonly used documents and determine if you are likely to encounter any compatibility issues. Compatibility issues are rare for most enterprises. The VBA Readiness Tool provides a report to quantify these issues for your enterprise. How it Works The VBA Readiness Tool works by scanning each PC to gather an inventory of the most recently used documents that contain VBA code. Documents that include VBA code, will be analyzed against a list of all known compatibility issues to determine if you are likely to encounter issues with the file after upgrading to ProPlus. The detailed report gives you all the information and confidence you need to plan your upgrade and to remedy any combability issues. 64-bit COM Controls Many Office users rely on the power of macros and forms to get tasks done. Some of these macros use Common Controls to create user interfaces or other such functions for users. Today, these Common Controls only work with the 32-bit version of Office. We're working to ensure a great experience on 64-bit Office and we will be releasing an update to our ProPlus client which brings 64-bit support to the Common Controls. The following nine controls will be included in the update: Once this update is rolled out later this year, taking advantage of 64-bit Common Controls will be seamless for users, with existing solutions continuing to work as they do today (though you may separately need to update your use of things like Declare statements, which you can read more about on MSDN). We are excited to bring 64-bit support to the Common Controls for Office ProPlus. We look forward to hearing your feedback. Office add-in report available in Windows Upgrade Analytics We announced the general availability of Upgrade Analytics in February 2017. Upgrade Analytics is a free tool helping organizations move to Windows 10. Learn more at http://technet.microsoft.com/itpro/windows/deploy/upgrade-readiness-get-started This tool also provides an inventory of Office add-in used within your organization. If your organization is planning a combined Windows 10 and Office ProPlus rollout, this tool is a one-stop shop to access both Windows application and Office add-in readiness. Pilot Program While all the tools listed in this blog are releasing later in 2017, we are accepting a limited number of enterprises into a pilot program. If you’d like to participate in this pilot program and are willing to share feedback with Microsoft, please let us know at ReadyForOffice@microsoft.com.Where is the "Microsoft Places" app?
Last year, Microsoft announced "Microsoft Places" at Ignite, and the video for this is still online, too. There are even features that have been stopped because of the supposedly imminent arrival of this new app. But somehow, there has been no news anywhere about Micro since October 2022. The about to start beta did not start, and on the 365 roadmap, all is silence. Or did I miss anything?22KViews10likes14CommentsOffice bypassing Target Version set by Intune
Ok so I was managing my Microsoft patches through Intune. A while back Microsoft sent out this message…. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/DeployOffice/other/devices-updating-monthly-enterprise-channel I believe I had opted out but recently our machines have started updating to the Monthly channel. So if this is true that we are now moved to Monthly channel how do we control it moving forward? I have done some of my own research and came across the following but still not sure what is what. If you log in here - https://admin.microsoft.com Go to settings, org settings, Office installation updates. You have some items here. If you click on Organization profile in the same window you have "Release preferences" If you log in here - https://config.office.com Go to servicing, Monthly enterprise, settings. You can choose criteria, rollout, etc Also I know in the past to troubleshoot a single device the reg keys you wanted to look at were: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\office\16.0\common\officeupdate Updatebranch updatedeadline updatetargetversion HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\ClickToRun\Configuration CDNBaseURL ClientversionToReport UpdateChannel Though I think now that it is managed from https://config.office.com this is the new key to look @ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\cloud\office\16.0\Common\officeupdate instead of the old one HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\office\16.0\common\officeupdate Any input on the above would be great.12KViews0likes12CommentsiOS PowerPoint App - Printing Multiple Slides Per Page
We have recently gone to the Office 365 Apps for iOS here and are largely quite happy with them overall with the exception of PowerPoint. One thing which constantly comes up is the inability for PowerPoint to print multiple slides per page. This was something that was in Keynote and has drastically increased our paper usage since we moved over to PowerPoint. Functionality is pretty self-explanatory. You basically have an option when you go to print of how many slides you would like to fit on each page. It will then scale the slides down to fit that number of slides on each sheet of whatever paper you are printing to. Going to assume the slide is flattened as an image and then scaled. Hopefully you gurus can figure it out and work it in for us! Would really love to see the ability to print multiple slides per page implemented into PowerPoint!!! Regards. P.S: I am well aware that in a perfect world, nobody should be printing things. Unfortunately hardcopy drafts are still required in some situations here. Wont be frustating you anymore than it is me!9.2KViews0likes0CommentsStrange update behaviour with M365 Apps for Enterprise
Hey folks, I experience a strange behaviour when updating my M365 Apps. I initially wanted to switch from the Enterprise Monthly Channel to the Beta channel and set a local GPO (Computer Configuration - ...- Microsoft Office 2016 (Computer) - Updates - Update channel). This did not work. Then I used the ODT and a customized XML to switch to the Beta channel. This worked perfectly and I am on Build 2208. However, when I choose to update Office ("Account - Update options - Update now"), updates are found and installed even with this current build and when I re-open Office I am back in the Enterprise Monthly channel. I am able to reproduce this by starting from scratch (custom XML) and then choose "Update now" again. Is this a bug or a feature? 😉 Or is there meanwhile an admin option to force users to stay in the channel chosen in the M365 admin center? I could not find anything about this... Thanks in advance for your replies! Best regards BenSolvedOneNote 2016 (Desktop) Renders PDFs in Low Quality vs. Mobile Apps
Hello! For the past few years I have been dealing with an unexpected and difficult use case between the OneNote 2016 (Desktop) and Apps (mobile, online, Win10, etc.) in regards to how PDF printouts are handled. When importing a PDF as a printout in OneNote, there is a difference in the resolution of the printout when viewing the PDF in the 2016 (Desktop) version when compared to OneNote App in Online, iPad, mobile, etc. **If importing a PDF printout in OneNote 2016 (Desktop): PDF is full resolution in desktop program (OneNote 2016) PDF is reduced resolution when viewing in OneNote App (mobile, iPad, Online, Win 10, etc.) **If importing a PDF printout in OneNote App (mobile, tablet, Win10 App, etc.): PDF is full resolution in BOTH desktop program (OneNote 2016) and OneNote App (mobile, iPad, Online, Win 10, etc.) Because of this, I am forced to import PDFs through the OneNote App in order to get the full resolution of the PDF. I can't just use the OneNote 2016 desktop PDF import, then go to a mobile device to read papers/edit. This behavior has been around for a while, and makes working with OneNote difficult since I use the PDF printout daily. This problem has been documented multiple times in the past in the following posts: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/onenote-app-renders-pdfs-in-low-quality/ea64a37d-eba9-45bf-bdb0-968aef1d338f Good description of the resolution difference between the imports, and the "workaround" solution via importing through mobile app https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/msoffice_onenote-mso_win10-mso_o365b/onenote-pdf-printout-low-resolution-on-other/caf6afc5-becf-4ab4-9890-5c0d1f298510 Previous OneNote employee describing what he/she believes is the cause of this low resolution import Based on the posts, the issue seems to be from OneNote 2016 using XPS as a native backend, and the apps rending the PDF resolution in a different manner: "2016 uses XPS as a native backend which is why the high quality rendering occurs only on that platform and on the OneNote Win10 app." - https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/msoffice_onenote-mso_win10-mso_o365b/onenote-pdf-printout-low-resolution-on-other/caf6afc5-becf-4ab4-9890-5c0d1f298510 Does anyone know why this is occurring? Is it due to the XPS backend of the desktop 2016? Is there a fix for this behavior? Short or long term? Any help/comment/feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
