Hello, because Microsoft premium licensing in MS Entra is too confusing and problematic I would like to be informed about proper licensing while using dynamic membership groups with the memberOf attribute as this article describes:https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/entra/identity/users/groups-dynamic-rule-member-of, This function is available only for synchronized identities with premium licenses or just one premium license for a whole tenant is enought? I assume we need only one premium license based on this (from the official documentation): You must have a Microsoft Entra ID P1 or P2 license for the Microsoft Entra tenant. However I want to be sure because with one premium license we have all premium features unlocked in MS Entra ID . This means we need to be really careful and take care of compliance which is from my point of view very unfortunate. Microsoft put heavy burden on their tenants because of this licensing approach. It would be very nice to develop system/feature/policy which will take care of it or at least notify tenants that they are not compliant.Solved35Views0likes1CommentHow to Use the Graph SDK to Manage Group-Based Licensing
Group-based licensing is a mechanism to make it easier to assign and mange product licenses for large sets of user accounts. In this article, we discuss how to use Microsoft Graph PowerShell SDK cmdlets to manage group-based license assignments in a Microsoft 365 tenant. Assigning licenses to groups is very much like direct assignments, but some differences exist. https://office365itpros.com/2024/11/04/group-based-licensing-sdk/45Views0likes0CommentsHow to Restore the Service Plan for a Microsoft 365 Product License
Many articles describe how to disable a service plan for a product license assigned to a Microsoft 365 account, but few cover how to enable service plans should the need arise afterward. This article covers the basics of disabling and enabling service plans for Microsoft 365 licenses using PowerShell, including the very important step of finding existing disabled plans. Everything’s easy once you know how. https://office365itpros.com/2024/10/29/enable-service-plan/85Views0likes0CommentsIncluding Costs in a Microsoft 365 Licensing Report
This article describes how to include user license costs in a Microsoft 365 tenant licensing report created with the Microsoft Graph PowerShell SDK. The report includes annual costs for all licenses assigned to each user plus an overall licensing summary for the tenant. It even reports how effective the tenant is at assigning licenses! https://practical365.com/report-user-license-costs/1.3KViews0likes3CommentsMicrosoft 365 desktop apps don't recognize active 365 account: Say "Product Deactivated"
I have a Microsoft 365 account for many years - fully paid up and active. I got a new Windows 11 laptop a few months ago and set it up to use the same Microsoft account. Worked fine until recently, when a banner notice appeared inside all the desktop apps saying... "Product Deactivated. On Saturday 14 September 2024, most features of Word/ Excel/ Powerpoint will be disabled" Along with a separate a "Sign-in Required" banner The account icon has a warning that my account needs to be "Fixed" And autosave is disabled (although OneDrive is working fine) So far, I have: Re-signed into each app multiple times Gone online to verify that my account is active and the new device is correctly registered Uninstalled all Microsoft 365 desktop apps and reinstalled from within my online account Verified that I can use all the apps on my other computer, and online with no problem But the problem persists. I assume it might be somehow related to an expired trial version of the software that might have come with the new laptop, but I'm signing in with my active Microsoft 365 account, and have completely reinstalled the apps from that account, which I thought would have fixed the problem, if that was the cause. I tried to get chat help from Microsoft, or a call back, but neither came through -- Is there a phone number available for Microsoft 365 Family version support? Any suggestions appreciated. Thx, DonalSolved507Views0likes3CommentsMicrosoft 365 licensing for MFA seems to be one big joke?
I think licensing for M365 MFA is one big joke from Microsoft in these days. Let me explain: Let's say in our organization we have 100 users. We have 50 users with MS Entra ID Premium P1 licenses. The rest 50 users don't have any MS Entra ID premium license. Now because we had problems with MFA in past we decided to go to Conditional Access to create our custom login flows to avoid any problems we had. But because Conditional Access is only for users with Premium license we can use it only for 50 users. For the rest 50 users we can't use Security Defaults (which were disabled on our tenant since begging of times). We also can't use M365 per-user MFA because MS documentation says so: "You should also turn off per-user MFA after you've configure your policies and settings in Conditional Access." So overall in this example the only option for us how to get MFA for the rest 50 users is to buy more premium licenses. Yes you can say we don't need MFA for the rest 50 users but let me tell you that's not an option. Certain Microsoft portals requires MFA and they are not accessible for user or through API until you activate MFA for the user! So congratulations Microsoft. You business plan how to get as much money from your tenants is absolutely legendary. This is one big joke...Solved855Views0likes6CommentsLicensing for Office365 calls via Graph API
Hello, I have a licensing question regarding the use of Excel from Office365 in our application via Graph API. Our organization is building a web application for businesses, which will be used by their employees. Users will upload .xlsx files, and our application, using Graph API with app-only access, will place the files in our organization's SharePoint Site and read calculated values from some Excel worksheet cells (again, via Graph API). Are there any legal limitations or requirements in terms of licensing? As an organization, we have the following licenses: Enterprise Mobility + Security E5 Microsoft 365 Apps for Business Microsoft 365 Business Premium Microsoft Fabric (Free) Thank you!633Views0likes3CommentsE2 365 for Non profits has expired - how to change to/ purchase E1

I dislike the Microsoft 365 self-service purchase mechanism and disable it in any tenant where I can. Global and Billing administrators for tenants that allow self-service purchases will soon receive notifications when self-service purchases occur to allow them to take action to allow, cancel, or change the purchased subscription. Or they can do what I do and avoid the problem in the first place by prohibiting self-service purchases. https://office365itpros.com/2024/07/19/self-service-purchases-notification/215Views0likes0CommentsVersion 1.9 of the Microsoft 365 Licensing Report
The Microsoft 365 Licensing Report is a popular PowerShell script that’s just been updated to V1.9 with a bunch of changes to highlight different aspects such as license costs for disabled user accounts and inactive user accounts. Copious use of some very dubious color choices makes the HTML report created by the script look very nice (if you’re color blind) and the new version can generate an Excel worksheet. https://office365itpros.com/2024/06/20/microsoft-365-licensing-report-19/362Views0likes0Comments
