Estimating Upload Bandwidth in Delivery Optimization
There is a policy(such as DOMaxBackgroundDownloadBandwidth) to control "download" bandwidth in Delivery Optimization (DO), but currently, there is no policy to control "upload" bandwidth. However, according to Microsoft's doc, the cacheable content that an uploading device can peer is limited to four slots. If four peer downloads occur simultaneously and the download bandwidth is limited to 1 Mbps, the upload bandwidth is expected to range from a minimum of 1 Mbps to a maximum of 4 Mbps. Is my understanding correct?
Windows 11 Upgrade Vai Intune with Delivery Optimization MCC
Hi Good day We are planning to set up a MCC for our environment for delivery optimization. We would like to know whether it will also help us in the upgrade process from windows 10 to windows 11 and how? From where exactly the patch will download? how the background mechanism will work (Content will be shared with requested devices without downloaded) We have created a test policy from Intune for Windows 10 already and it works, but we want to know once we setup the MCC is there any specific settings changes required from Intune for this window 11 upgrade. Since some days, we have a problem with our Delivery-Optimization-Report in WufB-Workbook. We only see the following error in all Sections Query could not be parsed at 'datetime()' on line [2,21] Token: 'datetime()' Line: 2 Postion: 21 Is this a global Issue? Is anybode else faceing this problem. The Report used to work fine for several Weeks - no changes made.
Windows Server Delivery Optimization support for more products
Actually, obtaining "updates" is one of the most consuming network bandwith and a cost expensive thing often misrepresented in enterprise network architecture. Since many years we always try to adapt or environment to put in place some mechanisms to reduce this comsuption like WSUS server, Branch Cache, proxy caching, etc. But recently Microsoft have changed some method to obtain many updates where we need to also change the "caching" method. On Windows clients, it's somewhat not an issue. Using SCCM with Microsoft Connected Cache and Delivery Optimization (DO) it's cover almost Microsoft updates (including Windows, Edge, Office, UWP apps from Store, etc.) On Windows Server, it's not the same thing! Actually Windows Server doesn't offer the same DO support than Windows Client. Windows Server just receive "Edge and Windows" updates with a DO caching method. We recently started to migrate our Office product from Office 2016 (MSI) where updates was provided by WSUS through Office 365 or Office 2021 LTSC (C2R) where updates are coming from Office CDN. It seem Office 365 Apps Updates are not covered by Delivery Optimization on Windows Server platform like explained in the link below !!! https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/do/waas-delivery-optimization We also in a migration phase for our antivirus to use Microsoft Defender. It's the same ting again. All Defender updates not seem to be using DO under Windows Server... -------------------------- Then, my suggestion to Windows Dev Team is to innovate on that ! Please offer same Delivery Optimization for Windows Client and Windows Server.
Using Delivery optimization in Autopilot deployment
Hello, we will soon be provisioning 80 new Windows 11 devices via autopilot in a remote office. Parts of them will be pre-provisioned, some will be user-driven provisioned. As the bandwith on that location isn't that high, i would like to use DO for the download of Applications to safe bandwidth. The apps are assignt for installation in background and DO is configured on the devices via policy. On devices, that successfully pass autopilot, DO is working good and clients are sharing data happily. But after some tests I worry that DO is used only in the full OS and not in ESP. Do you have any Experiences on that? Useing the early preview of MCC isn't possible right now as we are not allowed to use preview technology in productive envirnoments. Asking because, right now we are doing it with ConfigMgr client settings that use our boundaries to configure them, but if we would to only do it in Intune (without ConfigMgr) how do you propose that we configure the Group ID source in the settings catalog? Due to this being a tricky question regarding my scenario i have put it under windows 10 management because i am trying to manage windows 10 devices. Dear Forum, After the MS update that all WSUS connections should go via a HTTPS and use an ssl certificate this has disrupt my normal updating method using WSUS completely and being within a company that explaining why we should need an SSL certificate just to update our devices will be a hassle if the come with an easy explanation as "if I just let it go via https instead of WSUS I will not need to buy an SSL certificate" This has sparked my interest to start searching for alternatives for updating my devices, still in a controlled manner but without using WSUS or buying an SSL certificate. I strongly recommend moving on to WuFB and Delivery Optmization." After that i started to work on a Proof of Concept how i should deploy this within my environment. Our environment consists of Windows Server 2008R2 standard servers that will be upgraded to Windows Server 2019 when the available resources become available but the majority of our devices run Windows 10 1809 and Later. The questions that i have are the following: 1: Is it possible to have 1 Virtual Machine, one with windows 10 installed and the other one with windows server 2019 installed that will be updated to the latest versions and will hold all the updates on their hard drives and act as the Cache Servers? I know that WSUS has its benefits to control updates based on delivery groups but reading regarding WUfb and delivery optimization is also possible to achieve the same aspect(at least what I could understand) from creating security groups or OU's and create a GPO specific to that OU/Security group.Delivery Optimization and Windows 10 Feature Updates
