SharePoint Workflow Manager service constantly restarting - InvalidCastException
We recently started encountering an issue with the Microsoft Workflow Manager. Every few minutes the Workflow Manager service will crash and restart. We have 3 hosts to manage 2013 workflows in our SharePoint 2016 environment. Workflows in the environment continue to work, but sometimes delayed or unavailable. We went ahead and upgraded to the SharePoint workflow manager that was released this year (2023) as the Microsoft one has been deprecated, still with 3 nodes in the farm. We are still encountering the same issue. All that is recorded in the event viewer is "Failed Service Bus Operation: System.InvalidCastException: Specified cast is not valid." Which is then followed by "Application: Microsoft.Workflow.ServiceHost.exe Framework Version: v4.0.30319 Description: The process was terminated due to an unhandled exception." And after a moment or two, the Workflow Service comes back online. My best guess is that there is an offending workflow that is trying to cast an incompatible value? I can't seem to find it though, and I find it odd that it crashes the workflow service and there is no further information on what workflow or where to look to fix it. Nothing in the SPLogfiles that jumps out either. Here are the screenshots from the Event Viewer:
Best Practice guide for stretched HA farm?
Hi, Im planning a SharePoint Subscription farm over 2 data centers. Should be pretty simple. Farm will consist of: dc 1: 1 spfe, 1 spapp, 1 sql dc 2: 1 spfe, 1 spapp, 1 sql Sql servers will be AlwaysOn. Im not sure how to set up the sp servers. Is there a preferred way to set it up, with how to? Our domains have 10gb connections so should be more than sufficient for stretched and HA. Can CA site be hosted from multiple servers? How are IPs/DNS/certs handled? What else do I need to get my head around? Thanks. SwanTemplate References to offline SharePoint On-Prem Server
Hi All, We have encountered an issue after migrating from SP 2016 into SP Online and taking the old on-prem server offline. Some templates that we have used in the past (.dotx, etc.) have references to the old SP2016 environment embedded in them. Since we have shut down our old 2016 Server, documents created with these templates take minutes to load as it appears the template reference 404's attempting to access the old server to check if the template exists. The file is loads completely fine after the check fails, as expected, because it is now a file and not the template. I have 2 Questions: Does anyone encountered this or something similar and know of a way to resolve this issue? Are there ways to tell which files have been affected by this issue? We have files both locally and in SP Online that exhibit this behavior, which could mean that there are different ways to resolve this. Thank you,
Issue with ribbon permissions in Microsoft Project.
I am working on Microsoft Project (EPM) and want to hide the Status button from the ribbon for the Project Manager role. I have already tried adjusting the permissions in PWA settings, but the button is still visible. Could you please suggest an alternative method?
Sharepoint websites on IIS stopped
Hello, Last Monday, I noticed that SharePoint and SharePoint Central Administration v4 sites were stopped in IIS on our SharePoint application server. (We host each SharePoint component on dedicated servers, the application, search, and database servers are all separate.) SharePoint has continued to work fine since then, no users have reported any issues, and I personally tested it throughout the week without finding any problems. I’m not sure if it’s normal for these two IIS sites to be stopped, and I’d like to know whether it’s safe to start them again or if they should remain stopped. Thank you.
