Howdy. Anyone know how to change up the default font in Word Equations so that it stays that way? I have to go in and change the font each and every time I put in an equation! Please help if you can.

Here are the steps to change the default font in Word Equations so that it stays that way:

Create a new style in the Word document.

Assign a shortcut key to the style.

Now insert the Equation and type a letter.

After typing a letter, click the shortcut key assigned where it applies to the rest of the content.

I hope that helps!

Howdy! Thanks much for your reply to my concern. I tried your directions but when I got to the Assign Shortcut Key I clicked it and nothing happens. What could I be doing wrong?

Thanks,

Sam

In the link you will find a short guide that may be of some help to you.

Please keep in mind that what you can see on your monitor, no one else can see in order to help directly, so it's always good to include photos of your concerns and a step-by-step description of exactly what is happening.

To change the default font for equations in Word 365, you need to have math fonts installed.

You can change the default font by going to “Equation Tools/Tools/Equation Options” .

However, it is important to note that some versions of Word may offer more options than others .

@NikolinoDE  On my version of word document there does not exist an "equations tool" feature, simply just the "equations" feature. Can you prescribe possible methods to change fonts of my equations also to edit the font size of them

@Orran_wauhj

If your version of Word does not have the specific "Equation Tool" but only the "Equations" feature, you can still change the fonts of your equations and edit the font size by following these steps:

  1. Select the equation you want to edit by clicking on it.
  2. Go to the "Design" or "Equation Tools" tab (depending on your version of Word).
  3. In the "Tools" or "Symbols" group, you should find options for changing the font and font size.
  4. Click on the font dropdown menu to select a new font.
  5. Click on the font size dropdown menu and choose the desired size.

Alternatively, you can also use the "Change Font" feature in Word to adjust the font and font size of the equation:

  1. Select the equation.
  2. Right-click on the selected equation and choose "Font" or "Font..." from the context menu.
  3. Select the desired font from the font dropdown menu.
  4. Choose the desired font size from the font size dropdown menu.
  5. Click "OK" to apply the changes.

Please note that the exact labels and positions of the font and font size options may vary depending on your version of Word. However, the above steps should provide a general guide to adjust the fonts and font sizes of your equations.

Finally, with your permission, I would like to recommend that you always specify the Word version, operating system, storage medium, etc. when sending the topic, this would give you a faster and more precise solution and would not take up so much time for other users to propose a solution that might suit you. Photo/s or file (without sensitive data) if necessary would also help....is only a recommendation

Hi.; Thanks much for your reply. Yes, I have only the Equations button to click. I know that I can choose an equation, click on Design > Equation > Home and change things that way. But the problem is, I have to do it one equation at a time. I tried, at your suggestion, to right-click the equation, choose font and select a default. But this only works, at least with my setup, on items within Text Boxes. It does not work with equations. Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Best Regards,

Sam

Thanks for your input. I can change the font and size the way you suggested that I select the equation, click on Design > Equation > Home, etc. But I can change only one one equation at a time. The other way, to right-click and choose font and set as a default works only with stuff in a Text Box, not with equations. Any other ideas? Thanks. Best Regards, Sam

@Sam_Gooch550 I can't change the equation font even in an individual equation. I select the whole text in the equation, change font to Times New Roman, but when I leave the "font" menu, the equation continues with Cambria Math. I'm using Office 365 with Windows 11. Thank you.

I have been having the same problem and have tried all the fixes above. I have version 16.82 2024

@crparker I solved! you have to select the text and toggle "ab" in addition to unicode for it to display correctly

@crparker

Thanks!

Thank you very much!
