Word document tab and type sheet

Copper Contributor

So we have a form that we use when we are filling out incident reports. I recently got a new laptop. The forms used to be when you hit tab, it tabbed to the next bit of into you needed.. from first name..tab.. last name.. and the boxes were blue.

This is not happening in my new laptop. Any suggestions?

It does work with Libreoffice

Which type of form is this? Form fields with "Filling in forms" protection? Or are you using content controls?

@Stefan_Blom I appreciate the response.

I am not quite sure.  I am new to this blog, if I can find a way to upload it, it would probably help. It is built from a table..that's all I know. It's been in circulation for years, before I started.

@Rkaiser108 When you click on Reply, you will see a facility below that can be used to Drag and drop or browse for files to attach.  Use that to upload a copy of the form and we will investigate the issue.

@Rkaiser108 Tabbing moves the selection from one Formfield to the next in that document when it is open in Word in Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise Version 2306 (Build 16259.20182 Click-to-Run) Current Channel.

When you open the document in Word do you see the App Launcher - the nine dots enclosed by a red border at the top left of the following screen shot?

If you do see those dots, it indicates that you are opening the document in the On-line version of Word.  It needs to be opened in the desktop application for the FormFields in the document to work as intended.

no red dots on the version here.... I am truly appreciating the efforts here

it tabs to the next box, how can I get it to start at the colon?

@Rkaiser108 If you mean without the two spaces highlighted in yellow in the following screenshot, it is necessary to remove the protection from the form and then delete those spaces

If you mean spaces such as those highlighted in yellow in this screen shot, they indicate that the data was entered into those FormFields while the document was not protected.  They can be deleted with the form protect as they are actually in the FormFields.

This would be the result

So what I am asking and trying to get back to is ..one the first line it says " First name: (then a blue box which currently has Ronald in it)... before I moved this form to my new computer, when I would hit tab, it would go to a space just after the colon and I could type Ronald; tab to Last Name and it would move to just after the colon on last name and I could just type the last name. It was like the colon was an identifier as to where the curser would go for the next tab.

And there are check boxes and drop-down menu's that are not working either. I understand that this may be a much bigger project than just asking what is wrong and I appreciate the help

@Rkaiser108 That is what happens here WHEN THE DOCUMENT IS PROTECTED FOR FILLING FORMS.  The check boxes and dropdowns work

That's all it was... you have no idea...

You're awesome..

So the thing I'm asking and attempting to return to is ..one the primary line it says " First name: (then, at that point, a blue box which as of now has Ronald in it)... before I moved this structure to my new PC, when I would hit tab, it would go to a space soon after the colon and I could type Ronald; tab to Last Name and it would move to soon after the colon on last name and I could simply type the last name. It resembled the colon was an identifier regarding where the curser would go for the following tab.

Also, there are check boxes and drop-down menu's that are not working by the same token. I comprehend that this might be a lot greater undertaking than simply asking what's up and I value the assistance
