Read aloud is missing controls/can't change voice

Every tutorial article/video I see says to change read aloud voice in Word you just pick it from the controls.  I have no such controls - all I see is in screenshot.  No controls appear when I click read aloud or any of these buttons in the ribbon.  This is all that appears.  It will only read in one voice.  Changing the voice in the PC Speech Settings changes nothing, even if closing and reopening word.  How do I get this speech controls to show up?

kirrwed I found that I can only change the voice while the Read Aloud function is actively reading text. When you click "Read Aloud" and the voice starts, a pop-up box appears in the top right portion of the Word page being read. Click on the "Settings" icon in the right side of the pop-up box and it will give you an option to change from male to female voice and vice versa.
