Office 365 Text Box problem

I have been using text boxes and shapes for diagrams in Word and Powerpoint for some years. Beginning about two weeks ago the text box selection does not work properly. The draw text box command only results in an automatic text box that cannot be moved, resized, or moved forward or back relative to other objects. This is true on all three of my computers for which the Windows 10 OS and Office 365 is the only common software. I have tries Repair, and uninstall and reinstall Office 365, and contacted Microsoft to no avail.

Any suggestions please?
