Macros in Word 365

Copper Contributor

I have macros that I am unable to run in all documents. This started to occur a few days ago. Before that, no problem. I can create a macro in one document, but am unable to use it in any other document.

This is on Windows. It seems that I can only store the macro in the current document, not "All documents (Normal.docm).

When you record the macro, you can specify the location, which will be the default (Normal.dotm template), the active document, or that document's template.

You may have something that is blocking saving your normal template. Some Add-Ins do this. If in a corporate environment, your normal template may be locked diown or protected.

Use the vbe editor (Alt+F11/Opt+F11 Mac) to look at your NewMacros module in your Normal project. If you see your macro there, while in the vbe editor, press Ctrl+S to save your Normal template.

You can also create and keep macros in one or more global templates.

You can move your macros to a different spot.

Suddenly, for some strange and unknown reason, I am once again able to create macros in normal.dotm. As well, I can now use my macros in all documents. Makes me think something was going on in the background to cause this frustrating problem. Thanks for your reply, Charles.
