Backspace not deleting paragraph number
Hmm, here I can delete a paragraph number when the option is activated.
I am not sure why it isn't working in your installation.
As a workaround, you can always re-apply an unnumbered style to text.
Is the option to "Set left and first indent with tabs and backspaces" selected at File > Options > Proofing > AutoCorrect Options > AutoFormat As You Type?

But even when i deactivate that option it still won't let me delete the paragraph numbers with backspace.

HR303 Press the Enter key TWICE. The first one will add a new numbered paragraph and the second one will change it to a paragraph in the Normal Style.
