Auto-restart numbering for custom styles
- Aug 10, 2024
This may be done using mulitlevel list numbering or using SEQ fields.

You would want your topic numbering to be level 2.
If using list numbering, each level must be attached to a different paragraph style.
Glad to have helped.

Hi Charles_Kenyon and all readers of this thread.
I've encountered another challenge that I was unable to solve with the help of BinGoogle.
Now that I have my custom styles and numbering lists all set up and working, I need to find a way to be able to create in-document hyperlinks to these new paragraph styles.
When I use the "insert hyperlink" window and click "place in this document", only the original headings are shown, and the bookmarks list is empty.
Is there a style setting that will tell word to automatically add my custom headings to the available heading list for link insertion, or alternatively automatically create a bookmark for every instance of my custom styles?
Thanks for your help and have a great day!

To get the best answers, this really should be posted as a new question, perhaps with a link back here.
The built-in heading styles in Word have some special or magical properties. One of those is that they can show up as targets for cross-references.
If you cannot use the built-in heading styles, your workaround would be to manually add bookmarks to the headings. (Word does this automatically for you when you cross-reference to one of the built-in headings.
