I know this post is pretty old, but I just did this and no joke, my download speed was over 12x faster! Didn't even require a restart. I don't know why Microsoft wouldn't automatically update the driver to this version, instead I was rocking the driver from 2015 lol. I downloaded the driver directly from Realtek's website as mentioned in the post and my download speed (through a VPN) went from ~7mbps to 91mbps! Super happy I found this post!
