Get tips on rolling out Windows 11 across your organization! Learn how to cloud attach your on-premises workloads!
We will have a broad group of product experts, servicing experts, and engineers representing Windows, Microsoft Intune, Configuration Manager, security, public sector, FastTrack, and more. And, for your continued questions, join us every third Thursday for Windows Office Hours here on the Tech Community.

- RainerP250458Iron ContributorHeather: you posted ".. bringing you more events like this in the future ..." YES PLEASE ! This week (event) was the "best ever" since more than 10 years π ... WAITING FOR MORE! π
- GaryBaerBrass ContributorThis week has been extremely helpful. In general, everything seems more accessible as a result of the community you created by hosting these sessions. Thanks for all your efforts to bring us behind the curtain! Look forward to the improvements coming...
- RainerP250458Iron ContributorHeather: you posted ".. bringing you more events like this in the future ..." YES PLEASE ! This week (event) was the "best ever" since more than 10 years π ... WAITING FOR MORE! :-)
- ZebulonSmithIron ContributorI'll second that. I left Ignite with more questions than answers. After this week, I have more answers and new ideas than I do time to act on them. A+ content from all of the presenters.
- RainerP250458Iron ContributorLike Zeb said: definitely an A+ score ... so many MSFT enthusiasts and SMEs in one (virtual) place ... VERY APPRECIATED and HELPFUL π
- ESJeffLBrass ContributorFollow up to Nathans question, we are contemplating using old EOL laptops as thin clients by enrolling in Autopilot with basic OS configuration and have them connect to a VDI/Cloud pc or high power workstations in the office.

Why does Microsoft want to keep ingesting Servers into Intune from the Defender for Cloud and Endpoint integration when Intune cannot support (remediate) them? These capabilities will provide visibility and be more for reports. It seems like organizations will pivot between Windows Admin Center/Automanage/Update Management but its not going to touch more of the recommendations/best practices that are in Defender for Cloud such as "Machines should be configured securely" and "Machines should have vulnerability findings resolved". These recommendations really call our for Config Manager. Is there a roadmap or objective for servers to be added into a Intune for Servers or will customers need to keep Configmgr in place? Love the new capabilities that W365 offers for Cloud PC regardless. π
- treestryderSteel ContributorCould the Windows 365 sign-on directly from the Windows 11 logon screen be seen as Microsoft's answer to a thin client?
- ZebulonSmithIron ContributorShared PC Mode would be a great solution for this. It makes Windows behave very thin client-ey.
- treestryderSteel Contributor
We have many shared PCs (Shared PC Mode enabled and everything deployed per Device), labs (like the shared, but allows guest access to folks who for different reasons do not have AAD accounts) and various kiosks (nearly all run Edge as a single app, one has the navigation bar enabled for browsing like at a library).
Our need for thin clients could be thought of more like an always-on-VPN alternative. We need to be able to hand out cheap, yet secure, devices that are only useful for connecting to secured VDI environments. Both multi-user and some managed by a 3rd party in GCC.
- ESJeffLBrass ContributorI like the concept of Cloud PC but for shift work on-site how do you offset the cost of having to manage the host and the cloud pc, very expensive solution. What am I missing?
- KurtBMayerSteel ContributorAn occasional Intune limitation versus SCCM has been with Win32 apps and MSIs when doing app packaging and deployments. After the apps are uploaded to the MS Endpoint Manager portal, you can't get the app content back readily (without digging though the management extension folder on the clients). For example, if the source files got lost that went into the .IntuneWin file, or if you wanted to export it for transfer elsewhere. It would be very nice if there was a link in the app's properties to re-download the package source content from the portal, along with the config of the app definition, such as detection rules and command line switches.
- GaryBaerBrass ContributorSame with Scripts... Once uploaded, you cannot see the content of the "Live" script (unless it's a PRS).
- RainerP250458Iron Contributorto get back your original .intunewin file contents, have a look here: https://saadkhamis.com/intunewinapputilgui/ Author says: I wrote IntuneWinAppUtilGUI, v0.5.0.0, to simplify using and executing IntuneWinAppUtil.exe and IntuneWinAppUtilDecoder.exe. It can be used to Pack files/folders into an .intunewin file and to extract original files/folders from an β.intunewinβ file. I've tested that, works as expected :-) And to get back your PowerShell Scripts in Intune, use scripts here (from "Micke-K"): https://github.com/Micke-K/IntuneManagement

We're halfway through today's Office Hours. Keep your questions coming. Thanks!
- JethrenCopper ContributorWe have a lot of HoloLenses in our area and are having issues supporting them in intune. We have LoB apps created inhouse, but we are struggling to know what options are available for Hololenses or any other 'niche' devices. I can see all policies, etc. but don't know if it will apply to HoloLenses, etc. Please help!
- Max_Stein
Microsoft
Hi, Mark! We have a couple of resources that may help with managing HoloLens devices within your environment: Using Microsoft Intune to manage HoloLens devices & Manage and use different device management features on Windows Holographic and HoloLens devices with Intune. Should you need any further assistance with managing your devices in Intune, please feel free to reach out privately so we can chat though your scenario further!
- RainerP250458Iron Contributorsame here :-) also applies to Windows AutoPatch (are Hololenses supported there ?) ... As Mark posted: He can see all policies ... but doesn't see iff they are applicable for Hololens (2) ... Idea here for MSFT: please add a column in your excellent pilicy explanation XLSX sheets for "Hololens Supported" :-)

WUfB - We encourage users to shut off computer when not working (or at the very least sleep). Doesn't Active Hours settings ensure computers will never get updated until the deadline hits? I haven't confirmed this with testing yet because testing all WUfB settings to grok their functionality is fairly time consuming. A blog with pictures and clear explanations of all settings would help.
- ZebulonSmithIron ContributorAlso relevant when there's an always-on VPN in play that requires user authentication to connect. There's some high-security environments out there where that's a requirement and adding an exception to download updates isn't an option.
