- egoodmanBrass ContributorCan I try out AutoPatch using my M365 E5 Developer license? I don't see it available in my developer tenant & would love to test it out before implementing in our production tenant. Thanks

Hi egoodman,
Windows Autopatch is only available for the following products. You can check out the full list of steps on how to obtain a trial for Microsoft 365 E5 here: AutoPatch with Developer Tenant - Microsoft Tech Community

Thank you for joining and asking ;]
- tanvesCopper ContributorWhat kind of reporting will be made available for measuring patch compliance status? Will the report go to the granular levels such as device has got the patch and it has got installed but pending reboot, etc.?
- McMuckleCopper ContributorCan the requirement to disable CA policies be mitigated by exempting the Microsoft IPs used by Modern Workplace Customer API Native?
- se8791Brass ContributorHow does Autopatch handle failed updates? Any remediation options in AutoPatch for devices that have failing WU services or updates failing to apply? Any intelligence built-in to stop rolling out updates if detects a # of blue screens etc Any extra logging on the local device
- mohan_infosecBrass ContributorAre we able to use Windows Autopatch to patch these June 2022 patches? Will there be step-by-step instructions available?
- Chris_Tulip
Microsoft
Yes! If you add a device during its normal release window it will go through the normal release process; however, if you add it after the release window it will have the grace period enforced leading to a different user experience.
I'm not quite sure what you mean by step by step instructions since Autopatch takes care of configuring devices and making sure the update gets applied for you! If you're wondering about device registration this may help?
- leetmillwardCopper ContributorCan we use Dynamic Groups to populate each ring rather than a manual task of adding a machine to a ring?
- RichardLian
Microsoft
Hi Lee, thanks for your question.
You can utilize dynamic groups to populate the Windows Autopatch Device Registration group, but currently Windows Autopatch doesn't support managing update ring membership using your Azure AD groups. When a device is enrolled into the Windows Autopatch service, the device is assigned to an update ring so that we have the right distributions across your estate. The distribution of each ring is designed to release to as few devices as possible to get the signals needed to make a quality evaluation of a given release.
You can move devices between rings by following the steps shown here: Update management - Windows Deployment | Microsoft Docs
You can find further information in the Windows Autopatch - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - Windows Deployment | Microsoft Docs
- mupdikeCopper ContributorCan the rings, beyond the test ring, be controlled or fine-tuned? Such as preventing VIP machines from entering early rings, or making sure that the early rings contain a variety of machines from business units?

Hi Michael, Windows Autopatch doesn't support managing update ring membership using your Azure AD groups for example. However, you can move devices between rings. For more information see: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/windows-autopatch/operate/windows-autopatch-update-management#moving-devices-between-rings and https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/windows-autopatch/overview/windows-autopatch-faq#does-autopatch-support-include-and-exclude-groups--or-dynamic-groups-to-define-ring-membership
