Did the Mouse Pointer Style Change?

I have recently started losing my cursor on the screen. Even when moving the mouse, it's really hard to find. It almost seems like the black border around the pointer is thinner than it was, making it harder to see on very light backgrounds.

I know there are workarounds like changing the pointer theme or size, it just feels like I'm going crazy. Does anyone know if the image for the mouse pointer has changed recently?
