Windows PC Without a Head

Copper Contributor

I previously faced confusion when researching this topic, but I have since made a significant change in my setup.

I initially created a Raspberry Pi music server that operates without a monitor, offering basic security but functioning flawlessly for almost a year. Accessing the server controls via a web browser has been convenient.

Now, I am considering utilizing a budget-friendly Windows mini PC for another headless setup, albeit with a distinct purpose that necessitates a local Windows login/password system.

I purchased a remarkable PC from Amazon for just $161.00, which included Windows Pro. Upon setup, I disconnected the monitor, mouse, and keyboard, reconnecting them to my primary PC. Leveraging Windows' built-in Remote Desktop feature exceeded my expectations.

However, I encountered an issue when installing software that required a reboot. Subsequently, I lost connectivity after the headless computer restarted—a consequence of the user session being logged off. To clarify, can Remote Desktop still be utilized to connect to a headless PC that reboots and prompts for a password?

Thank you for your assistance.
