Windows 10 Microsoft Edge opened automatically after system update

After my Windows 10 updated, Edge launched by itself, which never happened before. Startup launch is already disabled. Is this normal? How can I stop it?

  • Hey — that can happen once after an update to show release or setup information, but it should not launch every time.

In Edge, open Settings > System and performance and turn off Startup boost plus Continue running background extensions and apps when Microsoft Edge is closed. In Windows Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options, also turn off the option that saves restartable apps and restarts them after sign-in. Then check Task Manager > Startup apps for Edge-related entries.

If it still opens, note the page it launches to and test a clean boot; another updater or scheduled task may simply be opening Edge as the default browser. Also, Windows 10 is past standard support, so keep the device covered by ESU or plan its move to a supported OS. Does Edge open only after updates, or after every normal startup?
