Win10 File Explorer Preview pane stops working after opening certain PDF files

After previewing several PDF files in the preview pane, the pane no longer displays the content of subsequent PDF files; instead, it shows a blank screen. Closing and reopening File Explorer or restarting the PDF preview handler temporarily restores functionality, but the problem reoccurs after previewing a few more files.

These same PDF files can be previewed normally in third-party PDF readers.
