What makes the mouse double-click when I single-click?
My mouse is double-clicking when I only single-click, which is causing me to accidentally open files and programs. I'm not sure if this is a hardware issue with the mouse button or a software setting problem, and I'd like to know what causes this and how to fix it.

First, check whether it’s opening files with one click or actually registering two clicks.
If it only happens in File Explorer, open File Explorer Options > General and select Double-click to open an item (single-click to select). Single-click opening may simply be enabled.
If one click also selects whole words or triggers buttons twice in other apps, test another mouse on this PC—or this mouse on another PC. If the problem follows the mouse, a worn button switch is a common cause.
Before replacing it, try another USB port, charge or replace the battery if wireless, and disable any double-click assignments in your mouse software. Changing Windows’ double-click speed won’t reliably fix a switch that sends two clicks from one press.
