The Keyboard Types 'e' Instead of 'a' When Caps Lock Is On and Num Lock Is Off

When I have Caps Lock turned on and Num Lock turned off on my Windows 10 PC, typing the letter 'a' in Notepad results in the letter 'e' instead, which is confusing and disrupts my typing. This issue only occurs in Notepad, as in other applications the keyboard functions normally, making it a strange and specific problem that affects my workflow when using this simple text editor.

  • Hi Shierven, because it only happens in Notepad, I’d first check keyboard layout, language switching, and any text-expander or keyboard remapping tool. Try the on-screen keyboard in Notepad as a quick test. If the on-screen keyboard works correctly, the physical keyboard driver or vendor utility is more likely; if it also types wrong, it may be an input/language setting or app issue.
