Laptop screen frozen while Windows continues to run

Windows 10 23H1

Since the past fortnight, my laptop screen has been intermittently freezing, requiring me to shut and reopen the lid for it to function again.

Interestingly, when I link my laptop to an external monitor, the freeze turns into a shift of the display to the external screen. Strangely, I can switch back to the laptop display using the Fn key without manipulating the lid.

At times, this issue occurs immediately upon booting up the laptop, suggesting it might not be linked to Windows.

Is it possible that the problem lies with the connection cable between the screen and the motherboard?

If you're comfortable with it, you can open up your laptop to inspect the display connection cable. Ensure it's securely plugged in, and look for any visible signs of damage.

As you've suspected, the connection cable between the screen and motherboard might be the culprit. Try cleaning the connectors and ensuring they're securely connected. You can also try swapping the display cable with a known good one (if you have a spare).

Josephooh Run a malware scan using Windows Defender or a trusted third-party antivirus to ensure your system isn’t compromised.

You can try restarting your graphics driver by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Win + B. This command forces Windows to refresh the display drivers, which might resolve the freeze without requiring a reboot.
