Can Windows accidentally load the wrong driver for a device?

Can Windows sometimes load the incorrect driver for a device, causing hardware issues or malfunctioning features? I want to understand if this is a common problem and how to identify or fix it when Windows assigns the wrong driver to my device.

Yes, it can happen, especially after a Windows update or when Windows Update replaces a manufacturer-specific driver; Device Manager and the driver version/date are usually the quickest places to confirm and roll it back if needed.
