After upgrade to build 17035 BAD POOL CALLER
Feels good.
Curious if anyone from Microsoft monitors this and can provide help to NOT upgrade (again) to 17035. There are now two new releases out 17040 and 17046 but I still have 17035 in queue to install. How can we "skip" to 17040 or 17046 and avoid GSOD before the next version can be downloaded and installed? Anyone, anyone? Ferris Bueller maybe? ;-)

I was able to get to 17046! But not through any of the procedures mentioned in this thread, including Safe Mode which as well all know won't allow Windows Update to run. This may or may not work for you:
- In 17025 allow the 17035 Update
- While still in 17025 enable Safe Mode via msconfig and disable all non-essential startup applications
- Reboot into 17035
- As soon as possible go to Windows Update and download 17046 or whatever is the latest
- Don't touch anything, not the mouse, keyboard or anything
(mine used to GSOD in 17035 within a few minutes but I was using the completer, browser etc.)
- As soon as 17046 is ready to install, go for it
- If 17046 installs, go back into msconfig and disable Safe Mode boot and re-enable your disabled startup apps
As I mentioned this worked for me but YMMV.
Best of luck - Dennis

Did not have this problem with 17035 but had to deal with installs on prior builds. Did you use an ISO or Use the Media Creation facility ? 1. Sometimes re-creating the install media will help. Also, there have been issues with some SanDisk drives not working well as install media so using a different SanDisk or other brand might help. If you have a DVD unit in your computer that is another alternative. 2. Sometimes the drive you are installing to needs to be refreshed (both mechanical and SSD). Have found that it may be necessary to delete all partitions and perform a complete reinstall on a cleaned up / empty drive in order for the basic processes to be once again realigned. There are times when mechanical drives get dead spots that don't get repaired and (surprisingly) SSDs seem to have their own equivalent. 3. A program like SpinRite will help (but very slow until next update) in this area if you are not in a place to 'go nuclear' with your build. It can be surprising how many 'foundational' pieces interact with the smooth operation of an OS. At least Win10 is not nearly the nightmare of rebuilding a Win7 drive.

Thanks for the reply Andy. Unfortunately there's no option to check for updates when there is a queued install pending. I surely hope 17035 is not going to ANY ring given the serious problem and many complaints about Bad Pool Caller and GSOD. I'm going to try 17035 and quickly try to get to 17046 via Windows Update before I GSOD. Failing that I'll be stuck on 17025 until Microsoft or someone had an idea on how to skip or reject the 17035 before it installs.

Don't know, I'm afraid.
What I can tell you is that I've managed to get windows reinstalled from media, but it was a real pain - e.g. full clean reinstall is the only option when you boot from media, and booting from media requires starting windows then doing shift-restart before GSOD, finally managed it on about the 10th go....
... back to your query - it can't be as simple as "check for updates", can it? If you're on fast ring that will bring up 17046 and surely they haven't put 17035 to slow ring have they?
